5681268 - Arm support and carpal nerve protection device

An arm support device is disclosed similar in style to a back brace, having a back support plate connected to a pair of forward curved shoulder support plates covers the entire back and shoulders. A waist harness extends from either side of the this section to maintain its position. Two arm like segments protrude from the back side of the back support plate to the front in order for the wearer to insert his/her arms. A forearm support plate holding a wrist support glove are provided on each arm segment to help support the device to the person.

7371222 - Cervical support system - Owned by Biocybernetics International (Laverne, CA)

A cervical support system for restricting head and neck movement of a patient recovering from an injury to or surgery on the spine. The support system includes a supporting member for mounting onto and around the head and neck of the patient. The supporting member includes an injection molded base portion integral with an occipital lobe supporting portion. The base portion is arranged to rest on the shoulder of the patient while the occipital lobe supporting portion is arranged to extend along the neck from the shoulder to the head of the patient. An arcuate member such as a C-collar is disposed on an outer surface of the supporting member. A plurality of adjustment devices such as a turn-tab adjustment mechanism on an outer surface of the arcuate member rotatably connect the arcuate member to the supporting member to position the arcuate member onto, and with respect to, the supporting member.

5964722 - Cervical-thoracic brace

A cervical brace has a cervical anterior base (16) with an anterior distal neck-chin plate (1, 27) and a posterior-distal neck-chin plate (9, 28) that are extended over designedly wide areas of a user's shoulders (22) and joined together to provide broad-base support for an anterior-proximal neck-chin plate (2) and an inclined posterior-proximal neck-chin plate (10) with which cervical vertebrae (25) are held desirably in place from the cervical anterior base. A rigid thoracic bar (5) is extended adjustably upward from a chest plate (6) that is strapped to the user. Designedly cushioned and washable pads (3, 4, 7, 11, 12) are detachably fastened to the neck-chin plates and the chest plate. A selectively neck supporting method employs an incline action against a reciprocally inclined back of a person's head by forcing a front portion and a rear portion of the cervical anterior base together to provide a highly weight-supportive base on a broad portion of the person's shoulder area simultaneously.

6308345 - Headrest for workers, belayers or physically impaired persons

The headrest provides support to the person's head, thereby relieving neck fatigue and other various discomforts. A one-piece headrest (10) is formed as a single piece and includes a back mounted support plate (14) having concave central body portion (16) and side wings (17 and 18) which straddle the person's spine to increase comfort, reduce movement of the head rest, and increase stability of the back mounted support plate when attached to the person's upper back. The second embodiment is a two-piece headrest (110) that includes a separate head support portion (120) and a back mounted support plate (114). The head support portion is pivotally connected to the back mounted support plate and a spring (125) urges the head support portion toward the person's head so that support can be provided to the person's head over a continuous angle range of backwardly tilted head positions. A locking mechanism (130) can be provided which enables the person to fix the angular position of the head support portion (112). Three strap systems have been developed for use by individuals using the headrest for different applications; belayers wearing a belayer's climbing harness, workmen wearing a tool belt attached to the waist, and persons using leg straps. The straps releasably attach to the climbing harness, tool belt or leg straps.

6217538 - Cervical/upper thoracic relaxer

A portable, free-standing head support frame for passively inducing cervical and thoracic flexion while maintaining traction includes a base support platform for placement on the floor or other stable treatment surface, an upright head support frame that projects transversely with respect to the base platform, a head cradle including a V-shaped occipital engagement block with engagement edges extending transversely on opposite sides of the occipital center line, a strap to immobilize the patient's head, and an adjustable coupling for holding the head cradle at a desired elevation above the base platform. The patient assumes a static, semi-reclined position with the patient's upper torso and head being elevated and inclined with respect to the support surface. The weight of the patient's upper torso induces a gentle stretch and traction in cervical and thoracic flexion, providing relief of cervical and upper thoracic muscle spasm, and facet joint, costovertebral joint and soft tissue conditions. The principal component parts of the frame are pivotally coupled so that the support frame is erectable to an upright, stable treatment position for accommodating therapy, and is completely foldable and collapsible to a minimum profile position for storage, without requiring tools.
