Abstract
A knife having angularly adjustable cutting positions is provided, comprising a blade having a base portion, the base portion having an outer edge including an engagement portion including a positioning mechanism for positioning the blade in multiple angular cutting positions with reference to a handle; a handle including a biased locking member for selectively engaging the positioning mechanism and fixing the blade in each of the angular cutting positions, the handle having a blade end; a spring, positioned in the handle, for biasing the locking member against the positioning mechanism; and wherein the base portion of the blade is pivotally attached to the blade end of the handle at a pivot point located within the blade end.

5875552 - Multistage pocket-knife - Owned by Chia Yi Enterprise Co., Ltd. (Taipai Hsien,TW)

Disclosed is a multistage pocket-knife being characterized in a pair of spring-supported balls rotatably received in ball holes formed on two side members of a knife handle and through holes formed on two lining members positioned adjacent to the side members. A blade of the knife is formed with several round holes near a rear edge thereof. Whereby, when the blade is in a folded position in the handle, the pair of balls extend a part thereof into one of the round holes on the blade and thereby firmly hold the blade in place without easily turning out of the handle even when the knife collides with something or falls accidentally. And, when the blade is in a process of extending or folding, the pair of balls engage into other round holes sequentially, permitting the blade to be safely extended or folded in more than one stage.

6591505 - Folding knife with a locking catch - Owned by Facom (Morangis,FR)

A knife having a handle (7), at least one blade (3) mounted so that it can pivot on the handle (7) between a position in which it is retracted into the handle (7) and an open work position, and a member (31, 41) for locking the blade (3) in the open position. In the open position, the blade makes an angle with respect to the main direction of the handle that is appreciably greater than 10.degree. and appreciably smaller than 90.degree., preferably between 20.degree. and 60.degree., and preferably roughly equal to 40.degree.. The knife has application as a two-bladed electrician's knife for cutting and stripping electric cables.

5615484 - Cam lock for folding knife blade - Owned by Spyderco, Inc. (Golden, CO)

A cam lock for the folding blade of a knife is disclosed herein wherein the heel of the knife is pivotally carried between opposite sides at one end of a handle. The handle includes an elongated slot defined between opposing surfaces of the handle for receiving the blade in its folded or storage position. A self-biasing cam lock assembly having components carried on the heel of the blade and the handle maintains the blade in its operative extended, unfolded position or in its folded storage position. The cam lock assembly includes an L-shaped cam member secured to the blade heel having an arcuate surface terminating at one end in a linear surface and a cut-out at its opposite end. Rectilinear slide members are carried on the handle having a spring bias yieldably urging the pin and slide member into engagement with either the cut-out or the linear surface respectively to maintain the blade in either of its two positions.

6684510 - Self locking folding knife

A further folding knife which automatically locks upon being moved to the open position. The knife includes a blade having a tang with a ledge portion defined in an upper region of the tang for receipt of a sliding bolt. The bolt is provided for sliding movement within a channel defined in the handle, and the bolt is urged forwardly towards the tang of the blade by a bolt spring, such as a coil spring. A band is connected at one end to the bolt, and the other end of the band is connected to a spool, which is carried for rotation within the handle. The spool can be rotated with respect to the handle to cause a winding of the band thereon, which in turn causes retraction of the bolt, such that the blade can be pivoted out of a locked extended position, towards a retracted position.

5737841 - Pocket knife with lock

A pocket knife includes a handle having a body portion and a blade pivotally attached to the body portion of the handle. The blade is movable between a closed position in which the blade is received within a groove of the handle and an open position in which the blade extends away from the handle and is exposed. The blade has a blade portion and a tang portion which is received within the groove of the handle when the blade is in its open position. A pin extends in a direction generally transverse with respect to the direction of the handle and blade, and is movable between a first position in which the pin engages the tang portion of blade for locking the blade in its open position, and a second position in which the pin is spaced away from the tang portion of the blade for allowing the blade to move to its closed position. A spring is provided for biasing the pin to its first position. Moreover, a sliding lock assembly is further provided for manually moving the pin to its second position from its biased first position.
