An apparatus for fitting golf club length and head-to-shaft angle to an individual person. The fitting club shaft is in two telescoping portions. A conventional grip is provided at the end of the first portion and the end of the second portion is pivotally connected to a conventional club head. A generally "L"shaped electrically insulating panel has one leg extending into the second shaft portion and the other leg extending into a cavity in the head. A first series of longitudinally spaced electrical contacts on the first end are adapted to be contacted by a connection contact on the movable first shaft portion to send an electrical signal indicating club length. A second series of spaced electrical contacts are radially arranged on the second leg about the shaft pivot point. The second series of contacts is adapted to be contacted by a second connection contact to send an electrical signal indicating head-to-shaft angle. A person grasps the fitting club grip and assumes a normal golf stance. A digital display provides a visible readout on an adjacent tower of the club length and head-to-shaft angle selected by the person. A rack attached to the tower carries a number of normal clubs having different lengths and angles, so that the person can select a club having dimensions corresponding to the display.
A golf club fitting system and method relate to the use of a golf club having its head rockably mounted on a base to enable the user to position the head adjustably. A club head orientation sensing device determines the loft angle of the club face when disposed in the desired adjusted position. A microcomputer responds to the sensor indicating the measured loft angle and other parameters such as the right handed or left handed user information and the intended playing surface condition information. A device responds to the microcomputer to display the determined loft angle desired for the given user.
A method and apparatus for fitting individual golfers for golf putters provides for determining the balanced position of the putter shaft relative to the putter head. The proper angle of the putter shaft relative to the putter head horizontal axis is measured for the particular golfer, and this measured angle is utilized to determine the point of attachment of the putter shaft on the horizontal axis of the putter head. The determined values are then employed to manufacture a "face balanced" putter for that particular golfer.
A method of fitting a golf club includes the step of acquiring at least one recorded image of a person swinging a trial golf club to hit a golf ball approximately at the time the club impacts the ball. The recorded image is analyzed to determine an optimal geometry of the club. The information is used to determine an optimum length of a fitted club. A system for fitting a golf club includes a camera positioned with respect to a golf ball supporting surface for recording an image of a person hitting the ball. A monitor interconnected to the camera displays the image and a grid generator generates a grid on the monitor for use in making measurements to fit the club.
A method for fitting a putter club to an individual golfer comprising the steps of having the golfer assume a position in which his hips are directly above his heels, his eyes are directly above the ball to be putted and his hands are directly below his shoulders and forward of his legs and measuring the distance from the crease between his palm and wrist to the ground adjacent of the ball.
A trial golf club and golf fitting system for determining at least one custom fitted golf club. The trial club includes a golf club head having a sole defined by a radius of curvature. The sole of the golf club head includes graduated indicia for identifying an optimal lie angle for the fitted club. When the golfer swings the trial golf club, the optimal lie angle of the fitted club is identified by locating the point of impact on the sole of the head of the trial golf club.
