An ABS adhesive for joining ABS articles, such as pipes, comprises: (a) about 10 to 35 wt% ABS resin; and (b) about 40 to 60 wt % dibasic esters and, optionally, at least one solvent selected from the group consisting of 0 to about 30 wt % methyl ethyl ketone and 0 to about 10 wt % acetone. The VOC level of the ABS adhesive composition of the invention is at or below the allowed maximum value of 350 g/l. The lap shear strength ranges from about 400 to 700 psi, which is deemed adequate for most non-pressure applications, such as drain, waste, and vent uses, and pool and spa applications.

This is a division of application Ser. No. 8/131,998, filed Oct. 4, 1993, U.S. Pat. No. 5,326,717 which in turn is a continuation-in-part of application Ser. No. 07/837,810, filed Feb. 18, 1992, now U.S. Pat. No. 5,252,634, issued Oct. 12, 1993.
A lap edge sealant composition is provided for adhering together overlapping sheets of roofing material which includes a rubbery polymer such as EPDM, a thermoplastic rubber, a tackifier, and a solvent, where the solvent is selected from aliphatic hydrocarbons, para-chlorobenzotrifluoride, or blends thereof. The lap edge sealant has a high solids content of about 65 to 90%, a volatile organic compound (VOC) content of less than about 250 g/l, and exhibits no more than about 35% shrinkage upon curing.

The present invention relates to a low VOC solvent based adhesive comprising a mixture of at least two organic solvents and a thermoplastic resin having a flash point of at least 100.degree. F. when measured in accordance with ASTM D3828-87. The low VOC solvent based adhesive of the instant invention volatilizes at substantially reduced rates as compared to conventional solvent based adhesives. Furthermore, this novel low VOC solvent based adhesive is easy to apply, cost effective, cures within a reasonable time without the use of heat, ultraviolet light or other mechanical devices. In addition, the novel low VOC solvent based adhesive can be stored in containers other than the steel tins.
The present invention relates to a low VOC solvent based adhesive comprising a mixture of at least two organic solvents and a thermoplastic resin. Desirably the adhesive has a flash point of at least 100.degree. F. when measured in accordance with ASTM D3828-87. The solvent blend of the low VOC solvent based adhesive of the instant invention volatilizes at substantially reduced rates as compared to conventional solvent blends in solvent based adhesives. Furthermore, this novel low VOC solvent based adhesive is easy to apply, cost effective, and cures within a reasonable time without the use of heat, ultraviolet light or other mechanical devices. In addition, the novel low VOC solvent based adhesive has good storage stability in metal or non-metal containers.
