6272807 - Rain directional panel

A plurality of roof panels are used for covering a pitched roof. The roof panels are of a structural sheet metal, positioned and laid over the roof and provide a series of spaced apart longitudinal stiffening steps separated by at least one flat surface portion adapted for abutting the roof for enablement of attachment thereto. The top edge of each panel is convex and coved for use in covering a peak of the roof. A step is provided near the bottom edge of each panel for covering the covered top edge of a further one of the panels laid below it.

6311446 - Prefabricated hip roof - Owned by California Acrylic Industries, Inc. (Pomona, CA)

An assembled hip roof includes a plurality of roofing panels as well as the rafters of the underlying structure that support those panels. Ridge caps preferably extend over the panels at the hip rafters. In a preferred embodiment, a set of metal roofing panels is designed and shaped for use on a specific hip roof configuration, using a minimal number of separate panels. In a preferred embodiment especially suitable for larger area roofs, a plurality of the panels interlock with one another. The panels are preferably coated on one or both sides for protection against scratching during handling and assembly. One or more of the panels preferably include decorative relief, such as the appearance of overlapping wooden boards. In a preferred embodiment of the method of the invention, the panels are manufactured from rolled steel. Plastic coating is preferably applied to the rolled steel after it is painted and before the steel is cut into panels and given decorative relief, in order to protect the panels from damage.

6941707 - Vented soffit panel - Owned by CertainTeed Corporation (Valley Forge, CA)

A cladding product which includes a panel having at least one panel section and at least one longitudinal recess. The longitudinal recess includes a first channel portion adjacent to the panel section and a second channel portion adjacent to the first channel portion. The second channel portion includes at least one edge portion that extends wider than the first channel portion at a distal end of the first channel portion. The second channel portion includes a plurality of ventilation openings formed on the at least one edge portion.

7594362 - Highly ventilated soffit with obscured ventilation openings - Owned by CertainTeed Corporation (Valley Forge, PA)

A ventilating component for a building, particularly a ventilating soffit, provides a high ratio of ventilation flow area to component coverage area. A sheet in a plane of coverage has a spaced-channel configuration, or alternatively a terraced configuration. Ventilation openings are placed in the connecting webs between the upper and lower levels, especially in sidewalls of elongated channels that open as slots on the exposed side of the soffit. These connecting webs are oriented at an acute angle relative to the coverage plane. In a channel arrangement the webs can be shaped to block direct view of the side walls. The acute angle precludes, or at least foreshortens, a view of the webs that contain the ventilation openings. The ventilation aspects are concealed while permitting a high ratio of flow area to coverage area.
