Abstract
A handling tool is provided for installing fastening devices such as pedicle screws in a constrained or limited space. The fastening device may be releasably secured with the handling tool to simplify installation procedures. The handling tool includes a one piece, releasable socket having a cavity sized to receive a portion of the fastening device therein. One or more flexible arms may be formed as an integral part of the socket for releasably securing the fastening device within the cavity. For some applications a plurality of flexible arms and/or longitudinal slots may be formed in the handling tool to limit the amount of torque applied to the fastening device.

6021694 - Surgical torque wrench - Owned by Aseculap AG & Co. KG (Tuttlingen,DE)

A surgical torque wrench having jaws for application to a rotating part and a handle removably secured to the jaws. The jaws and handle are secured together about a pivot that is parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotating part. A securing device is fitted between the jaws and the handle which secures them relative to each other in a given angular position and is releasable when a given torque is reached. A removable handle member is provided to fix the jaws to the handle to allow for application of torque.

7347129 - Tool operable for connecting a male F-type coaxial cable connector - Owned by Phoenix Communications Technologies International (Gilbert, AZ)

A tool including a tubular wrench portion and a hollow grasping portion. The tubular wrench portion has a first end, a second end, a hollow body portion located between the first and second ends and a plurality of arc portions located at the first end. The hollow body portion has a first slot extending from the first end to the second end. The arc portions have an outer surface for installing the C-shaped fastening ring thereon to generate torsion and an inner surface formed with a shaped portion to engage with a shaped outer surface of a connector ring. The arc portions are outwardly extended by the torsion when a predetermined torsion is enough to deform the arc portions of the tubular wrench portion.

5832796 - Power tool attachment

An attachment for installing a solderless connector to wire ends to form an electrical connection using with a rotary hand held tool is described. The attachment has a spindle member held by the tool. The spindle has a cylindrical member attached to the spindle having a frustoconical opening sized to accept and surround a portion of a solderless connector. The frustoconical opening has a plurality of detents which hold the solderless connector firmly and apply sufficient torque to the solderless connector to twist the wires inserted into the solderless connector together when the solderless connector is rotated by the tool. The detents will release their grasp on the solderless connector when sufficient twisting has been applied to the wires to electrically connect the individual wires but prior to the point at which the wires are twisted beyond their elastic limit.

5814046 - Pedicular screw and posterior spinal instrumentation - Owned by Sofamor S.N.C. (Rang Du Fliers,FR)

The instrumentation comprises for each lumbar vertebra two pedicular screws having two screw threads, one of the screw threads corresponding to the region of penetration of the screw in the pedicle, two rods having asperities respectively associated with a pedicular screw and secured to the latter by connection elements provided with elements for clamping the rods. Each connection element is in one piece and the screw thread corresponding to the region of penetration of the screw in the pedicle terminates in an annular shoulder against which the connection element bears which is separated by a smooth part from the screw thread outside the region of penetration in the pedicle. This instrumentation permits both returning the slipped vertebrae rearwardly and pivoting it in the desired direction of rotation, it being possible to carry out the derotation action slowly and by controlling the movement so that the surgeon achieves on the whole in the two movements an excellent precision in the repositioning of vertebrae relative to the neighboring vertebrae.

6626067 - Retention socket geometry variations - Owned by Snap-on Technologies, Inc. (Lincolnshire, IL)

A device includes a body having a plurality of alternating drive regions and corner regions arranged about a central axis for cooperation to define a socket recess having an open outer end and an inner end. Each drive region has a drive surface disposed thereon and confined thereto. At least one drive surface slopes toward the central axis in a first direction generally parallel to the central axis and in a second direction generally traverse to the central axis. The device may be a rotatably driveable device for driving fasteners and the like, wherein the axis is the axis of rotation. The device can be used for retaining and driving a drive member. In one form, a drive member, comprising alternating flats and corners is inserted into the device. The flats of the drive member frictionally engage with at least two of the drive regions, thereby releaseably retaining the drive member in the body. The drive member can be rotated by rotating the body in one of the clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. The corner regions can comprise channels formed between two drive regions to prevent engagement of the corners of the drive member with the body. Similar principles are also applied to create drive surfaces for a male driver that retain and drive a device having a complementary female socket.
