The present invention relates to polyurethane fusion adhesives that are hardened by the action of moisture and which contain at least one reaction product from a component that contains NCO groups and an essentially linear hydroxypolyester, hydroxypolyether, and/or hydroxypolyetherester component. In addition, the present invention relates to a procedure for manufacturing a material that is permeable to water only in vapor form, this being in the form of a fiber material, in particular in the form of a web, which is joined to a polyurethane film, in which the fiber material is coated with a polyurethane material and subsequently the polyurethane material is hardened to form a water-vapor permeable film. The present invention also relates to a material that is permeable to water only in vapor form and which is in the form of a fiber material, in particular in the form of a web, that is bonded to a polyurethane film. According to the present invention, a fusion adhesive with a segmented hydroxypolyester or an hydroxypolyether or an hydroxypolyetherester component is used for this purpose as polyurethane material. The fusion adhesive according to the present invention can be applied directly or by a transfer technique to the fiber material and is hardened in only one step, by the action of moisture, to form a water-vapor permeable, but otherwise high quality water-proof membrane film.
The present invention is directed to a moisture curable, hot melt adhesive coating and/or sealant composition. The composition comprises (a) a first isocyanate-terminated prepolymer comprising the reaction product of an at least essentially semicrystalline hydroxy-functional material (Component A) and a polyisocyanate; (b) a second isocyanate-terminated prepolymer comprising the reaction product of an essentially semicrystalline poly(tetramethylene ether) glycol that has a molecular weight of at least about 1000 (Component B) and a polyisocyanate; and (c) a third isocyanate-terminated prepolymer comprising the reaction product of an essentially amorphous hydroxy-functional material (Component C) and a polyisocyanate, the essentially amorphous hydroxy-functional material having an average functionality less than 2.5 and a Tg.ltoreq.-20.degree. C. All essentially amorphous hydroxy-functional materials in the composition have a Tg.ltoreq.-20.degree. C.
The subject invention provides reactive hot melt adhesive compositions comprising polyurethane prepolymers which have an isocyanate index greater than one and which are prepared from a low hydroxyl number composition comprising high molecular weight polyester diols which have a relatively low melting point. These reactive hot melt adhesive compositions have a faster setting speed than conventional reactive hot melt adhesive compositions. The subject invention also provides a method for bonding articles together which uses such reactive hot melt adhesive compositions and articles which comprise the reactive hot melt adhesive compositions.
