Abstract
A passenger side airbag module includes a reaction can having a generally cylindrical sidewall and a bottom wall defining an open-topped airbag cushion storage compartment, the bottom wall including an integral annular mounting ring defining an inflator-receiving opening. A retainer has a cylindrical sleeve with a top wall extending inwardly and a retainer ring extending outwardly from the lower end of the sleeve. An airbag cushion includes an annular mounting collar which is clamped between the retainer ring and the mounting ring. An inflator has an elongated cylindrical body partially received in the cylindrical sleeve of the retainer with a gas outlet cap extending through the top wall of the retainer to deliver inflation gas to the interior of the airbag cushion. The gas outlet cap is welded to the retainer to secure the inflator. A portion of the inflator body extends below the reaction can, and the mounting collar is positioned around the inflator body to cushion against rattles. Mounting studs are provided for securing the bottom wall of the inflator to a vehicle panel.

6843501 - Passenger air bag system for vehicles - Owned by Hyundai Mobis Co., Ltd. (Yongin-shi,KR)

A passenger air bag system for vehicles includes a cushion expanded to the front of a passenger when a collision of the vehicle occurs, an air bag housing mounted to an instrument panel at the front part thereof for accommodating the cushion therein, a retainer attached to the air bag housing for supporting the cushion, an inflator having the upper end vertically inserted into the rear part of the air bag housing in the normal direction thereof so that the inflator discharges gas to the cushion and the lower end fixed to the outer circumference of a cowl cross member, and an inflator bracket attached to the air bag housing for fixedly supporting the upper end of the inflator.

5762360 - Air bag assembly - Owned by General Motors Corporation (Detroit, MI)

An air bag assembly includes an inflator for discharging inflator gas. The inflator includes upper and lower longitudinal ends and an elongated longitudinal inflator axis. The inflator has a longitudinally elongated solid body portion and also has an outlet end portion located at the upper longitudinal end of the inflator atop the elongated solid body portion. The outlet end portion includes a plurality of discharge ports through which inflator gas is discharged. A base plate is connected to the inflator and extends radially outward therefrom. The base plate is positioned closer to the upper longitudinal end of the inflator than to the lower longitudinal end. The longitudinal inflator axis is generally perpendicular to the base plate to advantageously provide a T-shaped. An air bag is positioned above the base plate for deployment in an upwardly direction away from the base plate. This arrangement allows the outlet end portion of the inflator to distribute inflator gas evenly into the air bag and the longitudinal axis of the inflator to be oriented parallel to the direction of the inflating air bag.

6375215 - Airbag housing and cover - Owned by Breed Automotive Technology, Inc. (Lakeland, FL)

An airbag arrangement comprising: an airbag; a housing (1), formed of plastics material, for containing the airbag in a deflated, folded condition; a cover (5), formed of flexible material, and attached to the airbag housing (1) by a seal around a substantial portion of the periphery of the housing (1). The seal may be by heat or pressure sensitive glue, by ultrasonic or vibration welding or by deformable lugs (9). This arrangement is cheaper to produce and quicker to assemble, and has the advantage of being generally tamper-proof, since any tampering with the package will be immediately evident from detachment of the cover or tears therein.

6173988 - Airbag device - Owned by Takata Corporation (Tokyo,JP)

An airbag device is provided which allows the required strength of a container to be reduced, thus lightening the weight of the container. A holding plate 18 is inserted into an airbag 20 through an opening 24 of the airbag 20. A flange 18b of the holding plate 18 is superposed on a peripheral portion of the opening 24 and stud bolts 22 are inserted through bolt-through holes formed in the peripheral portion of the airbag 20. The stud bolts 22 are further inserted through bolt-through holes 26 formed in the bottom of a container 10. After an inflator 16 is fitted into a housing portion 18a of the holding plate 18 through an opening 12 of the container 10, a mounting bracket 14 is superposed on the bottom of the container 10 and the stud bolts 22 are inserted through bolt-through holes of the mounting bracket 14. Then, nuts 30 are screwed up-onto the bolts 22. After the airbag 20 is folded and accommodated in the container 10, a lid 32 is put on the container 10.
