A device for monitoring and comparing present, past and ideal performances on an exercise machine senses a preselected set of factors chosen to represent the present performance of the user on the machine. A Processor operates under a predetermined set of user controlled instructions to store the set of performance data for each performance of the user in its memory unit, and compare the present set against a stored set of performance data representing a saved prior performance. It generates an output display signal representative of a comparison metric therebetween.
A hand-held and operated, instantaneous readout, portable electronic instrument is disclosed, which may be used by an observer from the grandstands to determine the speed of racers such as racing cars, horses, athletes, etc. over a lap of a race-track and to comparatively display the speeds of one racer over different laps and the speeds of different racers.
A bicycle computer includes a base member structured to mount to a structural member of a bicycle. A cover having an inner surface is swingably coupled to the base so that the inner surface may be moved from a closed position where the inner surface faces the base member to an open position where the inner surface may be viewed or accessed by a user.

A method controls the speed of a motor vehicle in accordance with risk. Each risk element of a road segment is evaluated for the specific risk potential thereof by taking into consideration the perils and the actual speed of the driver of the motor vehicle. An integral risk potential is calculated for the road segment on the basis of the sum of the specific risk potentials of all detected risk elements. A system is provided to carry out the method of the invention.
