Abstract
A lightweight, pocket-sized, hand-held near vision test apparatus that selectively retroilluminates different near vision test objects located on an interchangeable near vision test card, or alternatively, selectively displays near vision test objects on a flat panel display screen. The apparatus allows the examiner to electronically direct the patient's attention to selected near vision test objects, while providing a baseline amount of contrast illumination.

6309117 - System and method for adjustment of color presentation in networked media - Owned by Nortel Networks Limited (Quebec,CA)

A system for adjusting the RGB or other color scheme of a Web page or other network media first tests a user for color compromise in their vision, for instance to determine if a user has a green or red color deficiency or other compromise. The system generates a translation between a Web page's existing color scheme and an adjusted scheme which is tailored to that individual's vision characteristics. The color translation profile may be stored as a cookie, digital certificate or other data object for retrieval and use on an existing or newly visited Web page, or may be dynamically adjusted with each new use.

6142631 - Reduced logMAR visual acuity test chart - Owned by University College London (London,GB) Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust (London,GB)

An improved visual acuity chart is disclosed. The ratio of the size of the optotypes of neighbouring lines on the chart is a constant and preferably the size decrement between lines is 0.1 logMAR. Each line of optotypes has two, three or four optotypes, preferably three. Crowding bars for visual acuity charts are also disclosed. These bars are spaced from the ends of row and/or above and below the top and bottom lines. The individual bars may be joined together with linking sections. The spacing form the optotypes is preferably one half the width or height of the optotypes and their breadth is preferably that of the strokes of the optotypes.

7549751 - Optotype presenting apparatus - Owned by Nidek Co., Ltd. (Gamagori-shi,JP)

An optotype presenting apparatus which presents an optotype for visual acuity test, the apparatus comprises: a display that is illuminated by a backlight and includes a light intensity changing device which changes backlight intensity; a background luminance selecting device which selects background luminance of the optotype among a plurality of preset levels, in which background luminance at each level corresponds to standard light intensity changing data in a changeable range determined by the light intensity changing device; and a correction device which corrects the standard light intensity changing data in the background luminance selecting device, the correction device including: an input device which inputs the background luminance measured by an illuminance meter, the measured background luminance being background luminance obtained when the light intensity changing device is operated based on the preset light intensity changing data; and a calculation device which determines correction light intensity changing data by comparing the background luminance input by the input device and the preset light intensity changing data.

7427137 - Visual acuity testing

Eye chart for testing visual acuity which includes a plurality of optotypes arranged in a plurality of lines with each optotype in a line having a uniform resolution throughout and the resolution for each optotype in a given line is the same. The optotypes are generated by standardizing the maximum resolution angle any one letter may have and such is done by utilization of a design circle which represents the maximum resolution.

7390091 - Vision testing apparatus - Owned by Sperian Protection Optical, Inc. (Smithfield, RI)

A vision test apparatus includes a viewing assembly connected to a chassis wherein the viewing assembly creates an optical path between an image display and at least one front lens. A near/far assembly includes a secondary lens selectively operable with the front lens to create virtual visual distances. An optional transparent panel intersects the optical path and operates at least partially obscure the image display so that the vision testing apparatus has a means to isolate a portion of the image display. A lifting mechanism is operable to raise or lower the viewing assembly for patients of various heights. The viewing apparatus is also rotatable independently of said chassis to present natural lines of sight to a patient during near and far testing.
