A container having a body and a tamper-evident band and a lid for closing the container. The band has a proximal portion frangibly attached to the container body and a distal portion. The distal portion of the band is deformable to an inward extending orientation with the distal portion shaped and positioned to extend inwardly across the peripheral outer portion of a lid. The deformed distal portion of the band optionally has a curvature of 90.degree. to 360.degree. or more. The lid optionally has an annular groove for concealing the terminus of the band. The lid may also have an outward extending peripheral flange, an upward extending annular rib and a stacking ring for arranging several lids in a nested stack.

A container can be configured as either a bottle or a drinking vessel. The bottle has a base which is detachable. A drinking vessel is formed by removing the base from the hollow body of the bottle, inverting the hollow body of the bottle, and reattaching the top of the bottle to the base. In the bottle configuration, a locking band connects the base of the bottle to the hollow body of the bottle. The locking band also acts as a tamper-evident seal.
A port and cap assembly for a solution container is provided. The port includes a tubular wall having a first end and second end, the first end securable to the container and the second end being open and opposite to the first end. An annular flange extends perpendicularly outward from the cylindrical wall between the first end and the second end to define a neck portion of the cylindrical wall. A circumferential sleeve extends longitudinally downward from the annular flange. A radial lip extends generally perpendicularly inward from the sleeve. A resilient cap is also provided which includes a first portion resiliently stretched to cover the open end of the port and a second portion removably captured between the annular flange and the radial lip. The second portion of the cap after being removed from between the annular flange and the radial lip is not recapturable between the annular flange and the radial lip so as to indicate that the port has been uncovered. A method for assembling a port and cap to a solution container is also provided.
A tamper-resistant container with tamper evident feature which includes a cover portion defining a outwardly extending peripheral flange, a base portion defining an upper peripheral edge, and a hinge joining the outwardly extending peripheral flange with the base portion. The upper peripheral edge includes an upwardly projecting bead extending substantially about the perimeter of the base portion that is configured to render the outwardly extending flange of the cover portion relatively inaccessible when the container is closed. The hinge includes a frangible section, which upon severing, provides a projection that extends out beyond the upwardly projecting bead of the upper peripheral edge of the base portion, for facilitating removal of the cover portion from the base portion to open the container.
A tamper-resistant container with tamper-evident features which includes a cover portion defining a outwardly extending peripheral flange, a base portion defining an upper peripheral edge, a hinge joining the outwardly extending peripheral flange with the base portion and an engagement mechanism for maintaining the peripheral flange adjacent to the upper peripheral edge when the container is closed. The upper peripheral edge includes an upwardly projecting bead extending substantially about the perimeter of the base portion that is configured to render the outwardly extending flange of the cover portion relatively inaccessible when the container is closed. The hinge includes a frangible section, which upon severing, provides a projection that extends out beyond the upwardly projecting bead of the upper peripheral edge of the base portion, for facilitating the disengagement of the engagement mechanism and removal of the cover portion from the base portion to open the container.
This invention provides a container and closure lid particularly suitable for packaging semi-solids and liquids which are to be frozen. The closure lid fits entirely into the mouth of the container, providing no easy method of removal absent use of a pull tab which incorporates a tamper-evident frangible pin. The closure lid incorporates a generally flat sided seal skirt which mates with a U-shaped seal channel on the container inner wall surface to prevent leakage past the seal skirt and a locking ridge having a flat top which mates with a locking ledge face on the container inner wall surface adjacent the container mouth. The seal skirt snaps under and is covered by the locking ledge to provide no purchase along the lid edge. The container seal channel not only provides part of the sealing mechanism of the invention but also prevents translation of the lid toward the container bottom while the container locking ledge prevents translation of the lid toward the container mouth. This back-to-back relationship enhances the positive positioning of the closure lid on the container even during freeze.backslash.thaw expansion and contraction of the contents. In one embodiment, the container incorporates a dimple ring as part of the seal channel which provides an interference fit to the inserted closure lid seal skirt, pressing the seal skirt against the opposing wall of the seal channel, thereby providing two regions of sealing between the seal channel and the inserted seal skirt.
