Abstract
An aqueous composition for the preparation of optically clear products for use in human or animal healthcare comprising 0.1 to 2.0% w/w of an oil-soluble ingredient as a 20-30% w/w dispersion in a suitable oil or 0.1 to 5.0% w/v as the pure crystalline compound, 2-20% of an emulsifier having an HLB (hydrophilic/lipophilic balance) value of between 10 and 18 or where a blend of emulsifiers is employed, a calculated HLB value of between 10 and 18 and 0.1 to 1.0% of an antioxidant or a mixture of antioxidants. Processes for preparation of the compositions and their use in the preparation of beverages are provided.

5885629 - Stable, optically clear compositions - Owned by SmithKline Beecham p.l.c. (Brentford,GB)

Stable aqueous compositions of biologically active oils for the preparation of optically clear products for use in human or animal healthcare, for example beverages, are prepared by a process comprising: (a) mixing 0.001-2.0% w/w of a biologically active oil or 0.1-2.0% w/w of a biologically active oil as a 20-30% dispersion in a suitable oil with 0.1-1.0% of an antioxidant or antioxidant mixture, (b) dispersing the mixture from (a) in 2-20 % of an emulsifier or an emulsifier mixture having an HLB (hydrophilc-lipophilic balance) value of 10 to 18 and heating to 50.degree. to 150.degree. C. so as to yield a transparent mixture, (c) raising the temperature of the mixture from (b) as appropriate whilst maintaining stirring to maintain a transparent mixture, and (d) combining the mixture from (c) with water having a minimum temperature of 95.degree. C. while continuously stirring to provide a trasparent composition.

6774247 - Aqueous solution of ascorbic acid and method for producing same - Owned by AquaNova German Solubilisate Technology (AGT) GmbH (Darmstadt,DE)

Disclosed is an aqueous solution of ascorbic acid which contains an excess of an emulsifier with an HLB value of about 9 to about 18, for example a polysorbate, a method of manufacture of such solution and applications thereof.

6660297 - Nutritional supplement to treat macular degeneration - Owned by Bausch & Lomb Incorporated (Rochester, NY)

A nutritional or dietary supplement composition that strengthens and promotes retinal health through the prevention, stabilization, reversal and/or treatment of visual acuity loss by reducing the risk of developing late stage or advanced age-related macular degeneration in persons with early age-related macular degeneration. The nutritional or dietary supplement composition may likewise reduce the risk of vision loss associated with the development of cataracts. The essential ingredients of the nutritional or dietary supplement composition are vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, zinc and copper. The essential ingredients are preferably provided in a tablet form suitable for oral ingestion. Preferably the composition is taken in the form of one or two tablets taken twice daily.

7501138 - Liquid food/drink containing fat-soluble vitamin and method of stabilizing fat-soluble vitamin - Owned by Kyowa Hakko Food Specialities Co., Ltd. (Tokyo,JP)

The present invention relates to a liquid food or drink containing a lipid-soluble vitamin, which comprises a pigment selected from the group consisting of riboflavin or a derivative thereof or a salt of the same, a carotenoid pigment, a cochineal extract pigment and a safflower pigment, or an emulsion, and an antioxidant; a method of stabilizing a lipid-soluble vitamin, which comprises adding the aforementioned pigment or emulsion and the antioxidant to a solution or a liquid food or drink containing a lipid-soluble vitamin; and a composition consisting of the aforementioned pigment or emulsion, and the antioxidant.

6635293 - Finely dispersed carotenoid suspensions for use in foods and a process for their preparation - Owned by Kemin Foods, L.C. (Des Moines, IA)

A stable product containing finely a dispersed carotenoid for use in supplementing aqueous systems, such as foods, beverages, and personal care products, with the carotenoid. An emulsifier is dissolved in water and an anti-foam agent and a source of the carotenoid are added to the solution. The concentrated product may be added to the aqueous systems or dried to form a powder that is readily dispersible in aqueous systems. The product may also include an antioxidant to preserve the activity of the carotenoid. Emulsifiers particularly suited for use include sucrose fatty acid esters. The product is produced without the use of organic solvents or elevated temperatures.
