The present invention relates to hair conditioning compositions which utilize as a hair conditioning additive a water-soluble polymer in amounts effective to impart hair conditioning properties to the hair conditioning composition, wherein the polymer contains the residue of N-vinyl formamide and the residue of at least one vinyl polymerizable moiety which contains an amine selected from the group consisting of secondary, tertiary and quaternary amines. The conditioning composition also includes one or more ingredients such as conditioning agents, emulsifiers, viscosity modifiers, gelling agents, opacifiers, stabilizers, preservatives, sequestering agents, chellating agents, pearling agents, clarifying agents, fragrances, colorants, and propellants; and water. The invention also relates to methods of conditioning hair.
Foaming propellant compositions for use in hair mousse compositions described. These compositions contain hydrofluorocarbon 152A and a suitable hydrocarbon in a ratio of about 30 to 70; to about 50 to 50; more preferably about 40 to 60. These compositions comprise the hydrofluorocarbon 152A; and a hydrocarbon, selected from the group consisting of propane, isobutane, and n-butane in the above recited ratios. The above propellant mixture is about 4 to 9 wt. % of total foaming, hair care composition.
Cosmetic products and methods of performing skin treatments are disclosed. The products and methods are especially suitable for removing keratotic plugs from the pores of skin. The cosmetic products are based on formulations including non-ionic, film-forming, solvent-activatable polymers as major active ingredients. Especially preferred formulations include N-vinyl formamide as in poly(N-vinyl formamide) as a major active ingredient. In some cases, the formulations are coated onto a backing material to form a patch in order to increase the utility and ease of use of the products. The products are used to remove keratotic plugs by applying the product to the skin, allowing the product to dry, and peeling the product from the skin. Also disclosed is a method for producing the preferred articles provided by the invention.
Disclosed is a process for producing a powdered water-soluble polymer comprising hydrolyzing a copolymer comprising an N-vinylamide unit and a vinyl acetate unit while dispersed in water under a basic condition and then washing the resulting powdered water-soluble polymer with at least one washing liquid selected from an alcohol, water at 20.degree. C. or lower, and salt water.
A hair treatment composition which has a thickened fluid form comprising: (i) a first (shear gel) phase comprising at least one naturally derived polymer which is capable of forming a reversible gel, which polymer is present in the composition as a shear gel (i.e., a multiplicity of separate gel particles which have been formed by subjecting the polymer to shear while gel formation takes place), and (ii) a second (suspended) phase suspended therein.
The present invention relates to hair care compositions which contain a polymer which is prepared from N-vinyl acetamide (NVAM) monomer and the use of those hair care compositions to treat hair. The polymer may be a homopolymer of NVAM or an interpolymer of NVAM and at least one vinyl monomer. The polymer is present in amounts effective to provide the hair care compositions with hair fixative properties and/or hair conditioning properties.
