6728185 - Device for assembling and adjusting an optical unit - Owned by Ricoh Company, Ltd. (Tokyo,JP)

A device for assembling and adjusting an optical unit of the present invention includes an adjusting device including a collimator lens, an object lens, a disk, and a signal sensing system. A light beam output from the optical unit is incident to the collimator lens. Parallel rays output from the collimator lens are incident to the object leans. Further, a spot converged by the object lens is incident to the disk. The signal sensing system receives a light beam reflected by the disk via the object lens to thereby determine a distance between the object lens and the disk and a positional relation between the spot on the disk and the groove of the disk. The device allows the position of a light emitting element to be accurately determined and therefore allows the angular deviation of the intensity distribution of the light emitting element from a designed value to be easily grasped.

7050381 - Optical system having a convex surface for accessing a storage medium - Owned by Discovision Associates (Irvine, CA)

An optical system for accessing a storage medium. The system combines two kinds of laser diode, abandons some unnecessary optical elements used in the prior art, and further uses a Penta prism to fold the optical path. Moreover, the optical system uses a CZBO prism to locate the two laser diodes abreast of each other. Thus, the space of the optical system is reduced, and the optical system is more compact.

7133341 - System and method for optical disc drive adjustment - Owned by Lite-On IT Corporation (Taipei,TW)

A system and method for adjusting optical drives. Rotating disc datum, and leader pin datum, must be adjusted to a specific position during a packaging process. An autocollimator according to the present invention senses tilt and sway of the rotating disc, outputting a first bright spot through a switch box to a monitor. In addition, an optimum tilt angle of the optical pickup head is obtained by a reader through calculation by a host, outputting a second bright spot through the switch box to the monitor. Therefore, the first bright is coincided with the second bright spot by a adjustment mechanism and according to picture switch by the switch box, reading optimum tilt angle adjustment. Furthermore, individual tilt angle of each optical pickup head is calculated by a host for satisfying adjustment of different tilt angles with different optical paths in reading CD and DVD discs.

6802411 - Dampening datum plate for disc drive component assembly - Owned by Seagate Technology LLC (Scotts Valley, CA)

A dampening datum plate assembly for an assembly line for components, the dampening datum plate assembly having a member for moving a component from a conveyor to a datum position at an assembly station, a dampening pin assembly supported at the datum position for absorbing vibrational shock from the component moved by the moving member. The moving member has a plate on which is supported a second dampening pin assembly for absorbing vibrational shock from contact of the plate with the component. Each dampening pin assembly has a replaceable compressible pellet member that absorbs vibrational shock.

7027223 - Optical element that is adjustable for optimizing extinction ratios - Owned by Agilent Technologies, Inc. (Palo Alto, CA)

An optical element such as a beam splitter for interferometer separates a heterodyne beam from the laser into separate beams having different the frequencies and orthogonal polarizations. Optical fibers can conduct the separate beams to a beam combiner for interferometer optics. The PBS and/or the beam combiner can use a coating to reflect one linear polarization and transmit an orthogonal linear polarization. To improve extinction ratios in the PBS or the beam combiner, a yaw angle for an input beam is non-zero and corresponds to a peak in the extinction ratio of a reflected beam.
