Related Patents
5895478 - Right and center font justification for a document system library - Owned by U S WEST, Inc. (Denver, CO) MediaOne Group, Inc. (Englewood, CO)

A method is disclosed for using a computer to provide justification of a plurality of characters and fonts in a plurality of text strings within a document from a document system library. Document files from a document system library are obtained and relevant information is transferred to a dBase II relational database. Character and font information for each character in a text string is identified so that the location and length of a text string can be determined. The text string is then manipulated as required for a desired justification.

6766495 - Apparatus and method for improving line-to-line word positioning of text for easier reading - Owned by International Business Machines Corporation (Armonk, NY)

An apparatus and method improve the readability of text on a computer system by changing the positioning of one or more words to eliminate potential problems in readability that can be identified by examining the text. When a potential problem is identified, the word to word positioning of text may be adjusted to compress one or more lines and/or to expand one or more lines to move one or more words to a different line. For example, if two adjacent lines begin with the same word, the first line could be compressed so the first word of the second line is moved to the end of the first line. In the alternative, the first line could be expanded so the last word of the first line is moved to the first word of the second line. By selectively changing the positioning of words, the readability of the text may be greatly improved.

6874122 - Computer system, program product and method of adjusting the display positions of hypertext links to modify the relative alignment thereof - Owned by International Business Machines Corporation (Armonk, NY)

A computer system, program product and method of displaying documents control the relative alignment of hypertext links by adjusting previously-determined display positions of selected hypertext links in a document. The relative alignment of the hypertext links may be controlled to unalign hypertext links that are in close proximity with one another and eliminate any overlap between the links, which assists in minimizing the inadvertent selection of unintended links. In addition, the relative alignment of the hypertext links may also be controlled to align the hypertext links, which may be useful for aesthetic purposes and/or to minimize pointer movement requirements for a group of related (and aligned) links.

7310771 - Method and computer-readable medium for providing page and table formatting services - Owned by Microsoft Corporation (Redmond, WA)

A computer-implemented method and computer-readable medium are provided for providing page and table layout services. According to the method, a layout manager program provides layout services to client application programs. The layout manager receives requests from client application programs to format document content. In response to such requests, the layout manager performs one or more callback operations to the client application to retrieve portions of the document to be laid out. Once the portions of the page to be laid out have been retrieved through the callback operations, the layout manager lays out the portions of the document and notifies the client application that the layout is completed. The client application can then query the layout manager for the formatting result.
