A display system comprising a display and a memory for storing a plurality of evaluation data relating to a plurality of types of clothing and accessories. Each type of clothing and accessory has a respective plurality of colors. The display is controlled to display the plurality of types of clothing, a plurality of types of accessories to be carried, and the respective plurality of colors of each of the types of clothing and accessories. A designating device is provided for designating particular combinations of clothing and/or accessories. When a first article of clothing of a designated color is combined with a second article of clothing and its designated color, an evaluation of this combination is performed based on the stored plurality of evaluation data, and the resulting evaluation is displayed on the display. Further, when a designated color of clothing is combined with a type and color of an accessory to be carried, an evaluation of this combination is performed based on the stored plurality of evaluation data, and the resulting evaluation is displayed on the display. The plurality of evaluation data stored in the memory may be represented in terms of an image which is derived from the designated combination, and the image may be expressed in terms of a plurality of scaled image items. Still further, an evaluation may be performed with respect to a degree of image achieved by a designated combination.
A system and method for enabling on-line purchasers to customize and personalize their purchasing options by prompting the customer to indicate customer preferences regarding merchandise and services to be purchased on-line. The system and method use intelligent process and rule-driven inquiry-databases, intelligent product databases, artificial intelligence rules, data comparison algorithms, animation software, graphics and video input and output hardware and software and/or video streaming to (1) guide consumers in specifying customer preferences, (2) make purchasing recommendations to consumers, (3) narrow selections of merchandise or services, (4) determine the fit of merchandise, (5) configure and optimize various options of subsystems into a complete system, (6) layout, compose and/or animate merchandise or models wearing merchandise, and (7) display the fitted system of multiple items with the recommended and/or selected settings.

A method and system for previewing accessories prior to purchasing is disclosed. In one embodiment a first image of a portion of a person can be provided to an input device. Then, a second image including an image of an accessory is selected from an electronic database of accessory images. After obtaining the first and second images, data of the first and second images are used to generate data of a composite image, preferably on a server computer. The composite image is displayed on an output device and includes an image of the accessory on the person. The input device, the output device, and the client computer can be located at a first location, while the server computer is located at a second location. In this image, the accessory can be previewed by the customer before purchasing the accessory. Preferably, the accessories include sunglasses, jewelry, eyeglasses or other personal fashion items, which are purchased over the Internet or at a kiosk in communication with the Internet.
An e-commerce method involves on-line viewing of a first article through a linking node for virtual merging on another structure. A particular application of the invention is directed to a method of on-line apparel shopping. The method includes providing a host-site accessible to an on-line viewer (customer) and web-linkable to a retailer having an apparel site. The retailer's apparel site has images of articles stored in a virtual closet. These articles can be apparel from retail stores for viewing over the web, and the on-line viewer is linked to the host-site. The consumer selects a structure, such as a photograph of a person captured in system memory, in response to a command received by the on-line viewer. Using the host-site, the viewer or customer is linked to the retailer's apparel site and images are passed from that site for view by the customer. Apparel is selected and virtually merged with the structure by forming an image including representations of both the structure and the selected apparel.
