Abstract
A double lumen introducing needle includes a hub having diametrically opposing mounting and distal ends connected by an at least substantially straight axial passageway. A side passageway branches from a junction between the ends and extends away from the junction and the distal end of the hub at an acute angle to the reminder of the axial passageway and terminates in a separate side port. A first, inner lumen extends continuously and unbrokenly from the side passageway through the junction along the axial passageway and projects outwardly from the distal end of the hub. The open end of the inner lumen in the side port is fluidly isolated by a seal from the axial passageway. An outer tube is mounted to the hub at the distal end. The outer tube projects outwardly from the distal end around the first lumen and defines at least part of a second, outer lumen surrounding the first, inner lumen. The outer lumen is fluidly coupled with a syringe at the mounting end of the hub through the axial passageway. The hub can be provided with a releasable coupling at the mounting end to releasably engage a conventional syringe, or at the distal end to releasably engage a conventional releasable needle, at both ends, or at neither end in the case of a disposable needle and syringe. The needle can be used to insert flexible wire members like guidewires or electrodes into blood vessels.

5885252 - Automatic safety infusion catheter needle

An automatic safety infusion catheter needle including: a trifurcate connector having a first and a second connecting sections coaxially aligned with each other, the end of the second connecting section being fitted with a rubber cap; an infusion soft needle inserted on the first connecting section of the trifurcate connector; a steel needle having a needle body slidably fitted in a sleeve and axially passed in the soft needle, the sleeve being connected with the second connecting section of the trifurcate connector; and an infusion catheter serially connected with a third connecting section of the trifurcate connector for infusion of liquid medicine through the soft needle into the body of a patient. After injection, the steel needle is withdrawn from the rear side of the sleeve to retract and locate and hide the needle body of the steel needle in the sleeve so as to avoid impalement and infection of the medical personnel and the liquid medicine flowing from the infusion catheter into the trifurcate connector will automatically flow from the first connecting section through the soft needle into the body of the patient. Therefore, the medical personnel can perform the injection procedure leisurely.

6371944 - Percutaneous needle with entry for insertion of a wire

A needle is attached to a connector portion having a common passage with an an arm with a lumen that has a one-way valve which prevents flow of fluid from the needle through the lumen of the arm which acts as a conduit for insertion of a wire into the channel of the needle that has been inserted into a blood vessel. The connector portion having the arm may be provided as a separable adapter for use with a conventional needle hub or may be a part of the needle assembly.

6156003 - Surgical visualization and moisturizing device - Owned by Chase Medical, Inc. (Richardson, TX)

A surgical visualization and moisturizing device providing improved visualization and moisturizing of a surgical site such as an anastomosis. The device of the present invention is provided with a plurality of small flexible lumens extending through and terminating distal of a gas flow port to thoroughly mix and moisture the gas flow with a saline solution. Each of the plurality of flexible lumens, preferably forming a ribbon, are separated from one another slightly at the distal tip to permit vibration due to the gas flow exiting about and past each of the saline lumens. This spacing further facilitates uniform moisturizing of the gas flow. The distal ends of the saline lumens extend beyond the tip of the device such that the pressure of the gas flow approaches atmospheric pressure, whereby gas flow will not go against the head pressure of the saline bag. This eliminates the need for a pressure cuff on the saline bag. The present invention further minimizes dripping at the distal tip, further improving visualization of an anastomosis site for the surgeon.

6238557 - Injection quill for water treatment - Owned by Betzdearborn Inc. (Trevose, PA)

First and second quill members introduce water treatment chemicals to a water stream advancing within water containing equipment having only a single opening. The first quill member extends through a sealed opening on a wall of the equipment and has a first inlet located outside of the equipment, a first outlet located within the equipment in the path of the advancing water stream, and a first passage extending between the first and second inlets. The second quill member is mounted on the first quill member and has a second inlet located outside of the equipment and a second outlet located within the equipment in the path of the advancing water stream. The second outlet is spaced from the first outlet and a second passage, coaxial with the first, extends between the second inlet and the second outlet. A first chemical substance flowing through the first passage and issuing from the first outlet into the water stream thereby avoids mixing in a concentrated form with a second chemical substance flowing through the second passage and issuing from the second outlet into the water stream. The outlet tip ends for the outlet tubes are beveled into the direction of flow of the advancing water stream and each beveled tip end may have a notch formed at an extremity to increase turbulence. The first and second outlets are preferably located at maximum distances from each other and from the walls of the water containing equipment.

6979339 - Medico-surgical instruments - Owned by Smiths Group PLC (London,GB)

The rear end of a dual lumen oocyte recovery needle is sealed in a plastics hub by means of two polyurethane seals compressed between the outside of the needle and opposite ends of a bore through the hub. The needle has an outer tube and an inner tube with a suction lumen along its length and which is deformed to provide a flushing lumen between its outside and the inside of the outer tube. A suction tube is joined to the rear end of the needle at the rear end of the hub in communication with the suction lumen. A flushing tube is joined in a side bore opening into the interior of the hub and communicating via a slot in the side of the needle with the flushing lumen.
