Abstract
A method of coating porous webs wherein porous materials having a range of pore sizes are given desired characteristics by selective depostion in the large pores of particulate treatment agents. Thus some characteristics are achievable by control variation of pore size distribution (e.g. sample, uniformity, liquid filtration properties) while others depend on specific attributes of the treatment agents (e.g. response to calendaring, catalysis, security marking adhesion properties).

6756075 - In-press coating method and composition - Owned by Rohm and Haas Company (Philadelphia, PA)

A method and composition are provided for applying a single aqueous coating composition to a composite substrate during an in-press molding operation to achieve (i) improved initial whiteness in a white pigmented composition, (ii) excellent color retention/stability and (iii) excellent press release properties. The aqueous coating composition incorporates an ion exchange resin and serves as a combined sealer and topcoat finish for press molded composite substrates.

5972427 - Adsorbent, supple, filter fabric and method for its manufacture - Owned by Firma Carl Freundenberg (Weinheim,DE)

An adsorbent, supple, filter fabric composed of an air-permeable, supple, textile, carrier material having adsorbent particles fixed on it by means of a thermoplastic binding agent. The adsorbent particles are coated on their surface with binding-agent particles which are set apart from each other. The average diameter of the binding-agent particles is smaller than that of the adsorbent particles. The adsorbent particles are also bonded to each other by binding-agent particles. The coating of the carrier material with adsorbent material is over 200 g/m.sup.2. The fabric has a total thickness of 0.5 to 5 mm, and its suppleness permits a bending radius of not more than 5 mm able to be carried out free of destruction. The filter fabric is manufactured by first mixing absorbent and binding-agent particles while adding water. The mixing is followed by carrying out the following steps in continuous sequence: sprinkling of the mixture on the textile carrier material, heating above the start of melting of the binding agent, and cooling off and rolling up of the resultant supple filter fabric. The product can be used in air purification systems as well as for protective clothing.

7458991 - Porous metallic scaffold for tissue ingrowth - Owned by Howmedica Osteonics Corp. (Mahwah, NJ)

The invention relates to implantable medical devices, particularly, to porous structures for such devices. In one aspect, the invention provides a porous metal scaffold comprising a porous metal network having pores defined by metal webs, the metal webs covered with at least one layer of metal particles bonded to the metal webs. In other aspects, the invention provides methods of forming porous scaffolds. In one such aspect, the method includes providing a polymer foam; forming a skin of biocompatible metal on the polymer foam by low temperature arc vapor deposition; and heating the polymer foam and the metal skin above the decomposition temperature of the polymer foam in an inert gas atmosphere; thereby the polymer foam decomposes producing a green metal foam. In yet other aspects, the invention provides methods of improving stability of porous scaffolds.

7416581 - Air-permeable filtration media, methods of manufacture and methods of use - Owned by Point Source Solutions, Inc. (Waseca, MN)

The present invention provides an air-permeable filtration media that includes an air-permeable backing and an adsorbent. The adsorbent is at least partially embedded in the air-permeable backing. The present invention also provides a method of manufacturing an air-permeable filtration media. The present invention also provides a method of substantially removing contaminants form air, employing the air-permeable filtration media.
