A land mobile radio communication system has a plurality of cell sites, each of which typically has a plurality of repeaters. The over-the-air radio communications between the cell site repeaters and the mobile radios in the system include both a voice component and a data component. The data component is carried as low-frequency subaudible information. Communication channels are provided between the radio users at each site as well as between users at different sites and between mobile radio users and the public telephone network. Within a cell site, the transmitted and received communications are digitized and passed through serial buses in a time multiplex fashion. The digitized voice is transferred between time slots to provide the required switching function. The system includes operational software to provide direct inward dial telephone number recognition, automatic voice prompts for a user entering a new cell, call priority override, fraud control for radio fleets and a dynamic control channel.
A method for paging a high-speed subscriber by a roaming reservation in a radio paging switching system. The method includes the steps of registering a roaming area and a scheduled arrival time through a voice mail system; converting a format of the registered information and transmitting the registered information to the radio paging switching system; transmitting the registered information to a radio paging terminal so that the radio paging switching system can synchronize with the radio paging terminal in an area, a time and a frequency; and checking a timer of a corresponding area, and if a registered time elapses, storing, in a data base, information that a subscriber moves into the corresponding area, thus to provide the subscriber with a roaming service.
A method and apparatus for providing a programmable device with operational parameters applicable to successive operational environments. According to some aspects, the method includes the steps of programming memory with a common operational code applicable to multiple operational environments, programming memory with a first operational environment dependent code, operating said device in a first operational environment, changing to a second operational environment, adding a second operational environment dependent code, and operating in a second operational environment. According to some aspects, the apparatus comprises a programmable device operating according to a set of operational parameters reprogrammably stored therein. The device comprises a memory having a first region containing a common operational code independent of operational environment, a programmable second region containing a first operational environment dependent code, and a programming module coupled to receive an operational environment dependent signal and to provide a programming instruction to the second region.
A method for optimizing a service supplied to a mobile subscriber unit in a mobile telephone system offering a multitude of voice and data services from system base stations to mobile subscriber units. According to the invention, an improved service center receives a request for service to be provided to a mobile subscriber unit. A processor within the service center determines whether prevailing conditions allow for efficient execution of the requested service and if so carries it out, and otherwise prompts the mobile subscriber unit to take remedial action whereby the requested service can be carried out more efficiently.
