The invention relates to a process for obtaining procyanidol oligomers according to which: an appropriate plant is treated by means of an extractive mixture composed of water, of a water-miscible organic solvent capable of dissolving the procyanidol oligomers and of sodium chloride, the crude mixture of procyanidol oligomers obtained is purified by removal of the extractive mixture and extraction of the residue, the extractive mixture optionally being recycled in the stage of treatment of the plant, the procyanidol oligomers are recovered in a pure form by precipitation.
The present invention relates to a process for purifying dimeric to pentameric proanthocyanidin oligomers which comprises extracting the proanthocyanidin oligomers from raw materials containing the proanthocyanidin oligomers or crude purification products therefrom by solid-liquid extraction using methyl acetate as a liquid phase; a process for purifying dimeric to pentameric proanthocyanidin oligomers which comprises pretreating with an enzyme for hydrolysis raw materials containing the proanthocyanidin oligomers, crude purification products therefrom, or a solution containing one of these; and a process for purifying dimeric to pentameric proanthocyanidin oligomers with a uniform polymerization degree which comprises separating and purifying the proanthocyanidin oligomers by polymerization degree from raw materials containing the proanthocyanidin oligomers or crude purification products there from by normal phase silica gel liquid chromatography using as a mobile phase a single solvent or a mixed solvent of two or more solvents selected from the group consisting of an ester solvent, a ketone solvent, a hydrocarbon solvent, an ether solvent and an alcohol solvent.
A process for producing a kakadu plum powder having an increased amount of naturally occurring ascorbic acid and high ORAC value. The process of preparing the extract includes the following: disintegrating kakadu plum fruit; treating the disintegrated kakadu plum material with enzymes to at least partially digest the material; juicing the kakadu plum material and drying the juice to produce a powder. In a preferred embodiment, the kakadu plum juice is further clarified with ultrafiltration and concentrated by performing reverse osmosis on the kakadu plum juice. The resultant kakadu plum powder has a natural ascorbic acid content of at least about 15% and a naturally occurring Oxygen Reduction Absorption Capacity value of at least 1500.
