A tube and end plug assembly include a tube having an inner diameter and an outer diameter; an end plug having a tapered body portion with minimum and maximum diameters and a radial flange adjacent the minimum diameter. The tapered body portion is located within an end portion of the tube which is in substantially continuous engagement with the tapered body portion of the plug. A related process of joining an end plug to a hollow tube having a cylindrical end portion, with inside and outside diameters, and wherein the end plug has a body portion with minimum and maximum diameters connected by a tapered surface and a radial flange adjacent the minimum diameter includes the steps of: a) inserting the end plug into the cylindrical end portion of the tube such that the radial flange engages an edge of the cylindrical end portion of the tube; b) deforming the cylindrical end portion of the tube into conformance with the tapered body portion of the end plug; and c) welding the end plug to the tube circumferentially about a joint between the radial flange and the edge.
The present invention relates to a control rod blade for a boiling water reactor. The control rod blade (2) comprises a free edge portion with a recess (7) which comprises a plurality of outlets, arranged in a row, for channels (3), which are arranged to receive an absorber material (10) and a cover element (4) arranged to be attached along at least a section of the edge portion. The cover element (4) comprises a cover portion (12) arranged to seal the opening of the recess (7) and a support portion (13) arranged to, in a mounted state, abut a bottom surface in the recess (7) and to allow the formation of at least a passage (16) between the outlets of the channel (3) in the recess (7).
A stopper for covering a mounting fitting of the type used to hold a chair, table or similar object in an operative position on the floor or other surface of a boat or recreational vehicle is usable with a range of different sized fittings. The stopper is made of an elastomer and has a generally conical plug which fits into the central hole of the fitting and a thin, flat cover extending radially outward from the plug to cover the top of the fitting. The upper end of the plug is slightly greater in diameter than the smallest hole with which the stopper is intended for use, and the lower is slightly greater in diameter than the largest hole with which the stopper is intended for use. The lower end of the plug is cut off at the correct distance below the cover to leave a newly cut lower end with a diameter of the proper size to provide a snug fit within the interior of the mounting fitting hole. A series of axially spaced circumferential ribs, projecting from the outer surface of the plug to provide an easily deformable surface which increase the area of surface contact between the plug and the interior surface of the fitting hole to thereby provide a more secure fit.
A damped drive shaft is produced by forming a cylindrical tube of selected length and diameter, inserting a damper into the tube and positioning it at a central location within the tube, fitting a deformable plug into each end of the tube, and swaging the ends of the tube to reduce their diameter and deform the plugs to effect a seal at the opposite ends of the tube. Following the swaging operation the reduced diameter ends of the tube may be faced and washed. Thereafter, the plugs may be removed whereupon the drive shaft is ready for further processing.
A method for repairing a heat recovery steam generator (HSRG) header to tube attachment damage, includes providing an access window in the header opposite the damaged header to tube attachment location; removing the header to tube attachment damage; inserting a tapered stub tube into a header penetration centered axially immediately over the tube; effecting a profile weld between the header and the tapered stub tube at the header penetration from the inside surface of the header; welding the tapered stub tube to the existing tube through the header inside diameter; welding shut the access window; and completing a post weld heat treatment of all the welds.
