A visual editing system for creating commercial online computer services. The visual editing system creates online services that consist of a number of subservices. Each subservice is a program that provides a particular type of functionality to the online service. Different subservices exist for displaying hypermedia documents, searching directories and databases, displaying classified advertisements, providing a bulletin board system, etc. Each subservice has an associated database of information and a collection of scripts that handle events such as input from a user. The visual editing system of the present invention features a fee setting tool that allows the developer to develop a fee structure for an online service. The fee structure can handle both fees levied against users and third party content providers. For example, users can be levied fees for logging onto an online service, performing searches, or downloading information. Third party content providers can be levied fees for submitting advertisements or for executing a transaction with a user. Similarly, the fee setting tool also allows the developer to assign a payment system whereby users or content providers can be paid for certain actions. A user may be paid when that user that fills out a marketing questionnaire or wins a contest. A third party content provider can be paid when that third party content provider supplies valuable information desired by the users of the online service.

A navigation communication system in which a plurality of clients access information stored in a server via a network, having a personal information control section provided in the server and controls the personal information of the users of the clients which access the same information and a personal information display section provided in the client and displays the personal information controlled by the personal information control section, a selector for selecting one of the personal information displayed, and a communication application section for communicating with a client corresponding to the selected personal information.
Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating distribution of revenue generated pursuant to distribution of content, such as recorded music files or other entertainment files, to content consumers. Identification is made by an identifier of includable distribution entities that are includable in distributions of revenue derived as a result of downloading content to content consumers. A revenue allocator allocates revenues to the includable distribution entities according to a selected formula. The selected formula is dynamically alterable, depending upon demand indications, as well as other criteria.
A method and apparatus is disclosed for sharing and maintaining objects over the World Wide Web using an HTML compliant client running a web browser. An upload interface is displayed on the client computer for entry of upload information corresponding to an object stored on the client computer. In response to an upload request, the object is uploaded over the Internet to a server computer and stored on the server computer. A display of the server computer includes a representation of uploaded objects and is updated automatically after every upload. The display can be viewed on the client computer or any other client computer with access to the Internet through a web browser. Objects can be selected from the display and downloaded to a client computer over the Internet. Access to the objects can be limited through password protection or other methods.
A document processing system and method are disclosed which are capable of performing inverse retrieval in response to a request issued by a user and providing retrieved document data to the user. Characteristic information indicating a specified electronic document or category is transmitted from a terminal device to a document providing device. The document providing device retrieves electronic documents related to the characteristic information from electronic documents stored in a database. Information about the retrieved electronic documents, such as electronic documents themselves or a list of the retrieved electronic documents, is transmitted from the document providing device to the terminal device.
The present invention provides a cut-list creation system allowing a cut list to be made and edited automatically through a network at a request made by the user. The cut-list creation system comprises advertisement design terminals, a center server and a network for connecting the terminals to the server. The center server comprises a storage unit for storing video contents created by using an advertisement design terminal and a cut-list creation apparatus for creating template data of a video-content-scene list. The template data is created by extracting selected scenes from a video content stored in the storage unit in a division process carried out on the video content along the time axis. The division process is carried out by an advertisement design terminal by making accesses to the video content.
