A standing umbrella includes an upright pole, a top affixed to the upper end of the upright pole, a slide member displaceably mounted on the upright pole, at least four tensioning struts having free outer ends and inner ends linked to the slide member at respective pivots, a flexible cover affixed to the tensioning struts, and flexible carrier elements extending between the top and the tensioning struts. Displacement of the slide member towards the lower end of the upright pole moves the tensioning struts into positions in which they almost extend perpendicularly to the upright pole, diametrically opposite ones of the tensioning struts enclosing an angle of less than 180.degree., whereby the umbrella is opened, and displacement of the slide member towards the upper end of the upright pole causes the umbrella to be closed. A flexible member extends between the tensioning struts and is affixed thereto for limiting the opening movement of the tensioning struts.
A spread position securing device for beach parasols includes a shank, a fixing base on an upper portion of the shank, and a runner fitted around slidably along the shank, plural ribs pivotally connected radially to the fixing base, and plural stretchers connected pivotally between the runner and intermediate portions of the ribs. Then the parasol can be spread from a collapsed position to a spread position. The feature of the invention is a cylindrical sleeve fixed in the runner and fitted around the shank to slide up and down so that the cylindrical sleeve may contact the fixing base to secure the contact points of the stretchers with the runners at a little higher position than the contact points of the stretchers with the ribs when the runner is pushed up to the spread position. Thus no other components are needed to secure the spread position of the parasol, convenient to handle.
An umbrella includes a runner slidably engaged onto a central shaft for coupling to a whale bone device, a tubular member slidably engaged onto the central shaft and having an upper portion secured to the runner, a handle attached to the tubular member, and a controlling device for controlling the handle to move along the central shaft in order to fold the whale bone device either to the compact folding position or to the open working position and for allowing the umbrella to be effectively actuated or operated by the users. An anchor member is engaged into the central shaft and has a catch for anchoring the tubular member and the runner to the central shaft at different locations.
