Abstract
A measuring device for the measurement of workpieces has a base frame with a workpiece receiver to receive a workpiece to be measured, and at least one measuring unit for the measurement of the workpiece. In order to utilize the measuring device as flexibly as possible, and permit the measurement of different workpieces in as simple a manner as possible, the measuring unit can be brought into at least two different positions.

6108924 - Apparatus and method for inspecting funnel assembly of cathode ray tube - Owned by Hankuk Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (KR)

An inspection apparatus for inspecting a funnel assembly of a CRT which includes a glass funnel and a glass neck attached to the vertex of the funnel and an inspection method therefor, are provided. The inspection apparatus includes a frame having a support platform for supporting the funnel assembly with the neck directed upwards, a location setting unit for maintaining the funnel at a predetermined reference location on the support platform, a detection unit which is movably installed in the frame in radial direction with respect to the axis of the neck, including a plurality of probes each for contacting the outer surface of the neck to generate a signal, and a controller for controlling a movement of the probes and estimating a geometrical state of the neck with respect to the funnel based on the signal supplied from each of the probes. Thus, a geometrical state of a neck with respect to a funnel can he accurately estimated.

6701633 - Apparatus and method for measuring a shape using multiple probes - Owned by Canon Kabushiki Kaisha (Tokyo,JP)

There is provided a shape measuring apparatus which defines an XYZ-axis coordinate and measures a surface shape of an object, the apparatus including a plurality of probes arranged in a Y-axis direction, the probes contacting a surface of the object, and moving in a Z-axis direction according to the surface shape of the object, a probe holder for holding each of the plurality of probes movable in the Z-axis direction, a moving mechanism for moving the probe holding mechanism in an X-axis direction relative to the object, first and second measuring instruments for measuring positions of each probe in the X-axis and Y-axis directions, a third measuring instrument for measuring a position of each probe in the Z-axis direction; and a computing unit for calculating the surface shape of the object based on measuring results from the first, second, and third measuring instruments.

6298572 - Universal holding device for effectuating three dimensional measurement of a part and method of constructing such a holding device

A fixture assembly for holding a part to be measured in a specified and elevated orientation and being utilized in combination with an existing coordinate measurement machine. A transportable body is provided having a horizontally arrayed and upwardly facing platform. The coordinate measurement machine is adapted to be arranged in proximity to the transportable body. First, second and third datum blocks are secured upon the upwardly facing platform at first, second and third selected locations. Each of the datum blocks further includes an upwardly facing tapped hole for receiving a measurement target which is capable of being manipulated according to instructions provided by the coordinate measurement machine to define first, second and third datum planes according to a coordinate system defined for the part to be measured. A plurality of individual support units are secured upon the platform at locations specified by the coordinate measurement machine. The individual support units each further include an upwardly facing receptacle bushing within which is defined a tapped hole for receiving one of any suitable type of measurement target and is capable of being manipulated according to instructions provided by the coordinate measurement machine to define an associated plurality of individual part supporting points. Each of the measurement targets within the receptacle bushing is replaced by a part support pin upon the coordinate measurement machine defining a correct location for the supporting point.
