A method and apparatus for fusing a pour spout to the surrounding surface of a lid or container during the molding process. During molding the hot molten plastic of the lid or container contacts. A relatively thick rim portion at the bottom of the pour spout to meet the thick rim portion and create fusing during the cooling of the mold. The pour spout has a flexible section to permit a portion of the fused pour spout to be moved between collapsed and extended positions.
A sequentially moulded closure arrangement (1) comprising a body (4), which forms the shoulder of a container, such as a tube (2), and defines a dispensing passageway, a cover (5), to seal the dispensing passageway, and a fixing ring (7) to join the body to the container. The cover is connected to the body or the fixing ring by a moulded hinge (6) and the cover and fixing ring are sequentially moulded together as an integral moulding, removing the requirement to assemble the cover, body and fixing ring in a separate assembly operation. The arrangement has further advantages relating to cleanliness and ease of dispensing.

A method for making a lid with a spout is disclosed. The spout is affixed in an opening of the lid by injection molding the lid about the spout while the spout is held in place in the injection mold. The steps of molding the lid and affixing the spout to the lid are performed at the same time without the detriments of conventional ultrasonic welding. Preferably, a core insertion member is used in a movable base mold and a cavity insertion member is used in a fixed base mold to hold the spout in place and to mold the lid thereabout.
