An emergency alert communication system comprising a radio frequency receiver. The radio frequency receiver decodes incoming emergency alert signals and demodulates data header signals and emergency alert voice message signals of the emergency alert signals. Included in the data header signals are event and location code signals, which are followed by the emergency alert voice message signals. The demodulated data header signals in the form of digital data header signals are applied to a microcontroller. A telephone keypad of a telephone device is actuated to enter into the microcontroller event and location code signals. Should the event and location code signals demodulated by the receiver and applied to the microcontroller match the event and location code signals entered into the microcontroller by the telephone keypad, the microcontroller routes through an audio switching circuit the emergency alert voice message signals to a speaker, a recording device and a telephone handset of a telephone device. The radio frequency receiver, the microcontroller, the telephone handset, the telephone keypad, the speaker, and the recording device are embodied in the telephone device.
The present disclosure is directed to a system and method of communicating emergency alerts. In a particular embodiment, the method includes receiving a multicast emergency alert message at a set-top box device via a multicast-enabled network, where the multicast emergency alert message includes data related to a location code and data related to a set-top box action. The method also includes executing the set-top box action when the location code matches location information stored at the set-top box device.
Apparatus and method to receive and record an Emergency Alert System warning message on a voice messaging system. A voice messaging system such as a telephone answering device includes an Emergency Alert System radio receiver and detector module to receive and record an Emergency Alert System warning message. The emergency message can be reviewed either locally or remotely. In another embodiment, an Emergency Alert System warning message is received by a telephone system, and played in the earpiece or speaker on a substantially real-time basis. In yet another embodiment, an Emergency Alert System warning message may be recorded and then forwarded to another location based on address information (e.g., telephone number, e-mail address, pager number, etc.) which would not otherwise be within the broadcast area of the original Emergency Alert System warning message.
Local telephone exchanges in a threatened geographical area connect to their subscribers and transmit a recorded warning message. This is done in response to transmission of threat data communicated from one of several remote computer terminals to a central computer. The central computer has a data storage device upon which is stored a local exchange database and preferably recorded warning messages. Upon receipt of the threat data from the remote computer terminal, the central computer is connected in communication with the local exchanges in the threatened geographical area and instructs the local exchanges to connect to its subscribers and provides instructions or a warning message to be played to the subscribers who go off-hook.

A system includes a plurality of communication devices and a telephony exchange system. The telephony exchange system is adapted to communicate with the plurality of communication devices. The telephony exchange system comprises receiving an alert signal, identifying a plurality of users of the private telephony exchange system, and alerting the identified plurality of users in response to receiving the alert signal.
