Abstract
An electronic price label (EPL) price synchronization system and method which increase price reliability while conserving system bandwidth. A storage medium contains an audit file containing scheduled price change messages. The storage medium may additionally contain an EPL data file containing correct price information or a price file containing correct price information. A computer terminal reads the audit file to obtain an item identification number for an item associated with the EPL from a price change message addressed to the EPL, determines the correct price of the item from either the EPL data file or the price file, sends the correct price information to the EPL, receives a comparison result from the EPL following comparison of the correct price information to displayed price information by the EPL, determines from the comparison result whether the displayed price equals the correct price, and if the correct price is not equal to the displayed price sends another price change message containing the correct price to the EPL.

6510989 - Price check assistant - Owned by International Business Machines Corporation (Armonk, NY)

A method for assisting the recall of retail good information in a point of sale (POS) system can include the steps of scanning an identifier associated with a retail good; searching a translation table for retail good information corresponding to the scanned identifier; and, if the retail good information cannot be found in the translation table in the searching step, displaying a list of retail good information previously assigned to the scanned identifier. In a preferred embodiment, the retail good information can be a purchase price corresponding to the retail good. A POS system for assisting the recall price information can comprise: a POS terminal for processing the sale of retail goods in a retail store; a scanner for scanning retail good identifiers affixed to the retail goods; a translation table for correlating the scanned retail good identifiers with corresponding prices; a manually entered price list database for storing prices not contained in the translation table; and, graphical user interface (GUI) in the POS terminal for displaying a list of the stored prices contained in the manually entered price list database. The POS system can further comprise both accepting a manually entered price corresponding to a scanned retail good identifier; and, storing the manually entered price in the manually entered price list database.

6540143 - System and method for recovering bar code errors - Owned by Fujitsu Limited (Kanagawa,JP)

A system and method that facilitates the recovery of bar code scanning errors due to irregularities in the bar code. When a bar code scanning error occurs, the system displays the erroneously scanned bar code indicating the characters that could not be resolved successfully. The store clerk or operator need only fill the missing digit to confirm the scanned item without manually entering the entire code. Alternatively, a search engine evaluates the portions of the bar code which have been successfully resolved and displays a text and/or graphics list of all products having the resolved portion of the bar code. The store clerk or operator then need only choose the correct item from the screen list to confirm the sale. A printer allows the completed bar code to be printed on a receipt paper. The user of the system may then use the printed bar code for items that continuously result in a bar code error. The system may further keep a list of erroneously scanned bar codes. This allows manufacturers or retailers to improve their bar code quality by identifying those bar codes that consistently give a large number of errors due to a particular repetitive defect.
