Abstract
Rapidly releasable attachment of an abrasive disk to a rotary grinder is provided by fitting the disk with a disk retention adapter which clamps onto the disk and is provided with retention means extending from the non-abrasive bearing surface, a also providing a lock-nut assembly for mounting on the drive shaft of the rotary grinder which comprises a number of detents and detent access slots which permit the retention means to be inserted into the slots and, by a simple axial rotation move the retention means into the detents to lock the disk into position.

6840849 - Mounting device for coated abrasive finishing articles

A reusable mounting device which includes a support member having a support pad (32) secured to a hollow cylindrical body (42) by way of a compression ring (46). The hollow body defines a recess which receives a nut (18) that is adapted to protrude through a central aperture in an abrasive disc (1) and includes an irregular surface (22) providing an interference fit between the nut and the aperture in the disc. The nut extends into the hollow cylindrical member and includes an internal threaded bore adapted for threadable engagement with a drive member (30) which forms a part of or is attached to a portable power tool.

6893335 - Mounting device for abrasive wheels

A reusable mount for an abrasive device (14) including a nut (12) and a support unit (10). The nut (12) includes a threaded barrel (20) and a flange (22). The barrel extends through a central opening (15) in the abrasive device and the support unit it threadably attached by hand to the barrel to capture the abrasive device between the flange and the support unit. The assembled abrasive device and mount are then threadably secured to the spindle (70) of a power tool for use.

6758732 - Backing plate and disc configured for blowing angled grinding

A combination abrasive disc and backing plate provide workpiece viewing and blowing collectively through aligned viewing apertures. The backing plate has a bottom surface adapted to support the abrasive disc and an opposed top surface. Coordinated alignment of the viewing apertures of the disc and plate allows observation of a workpiece collectively through the disc and plate during rotary drive thereof. The plate's viewing aperture is partially adjoined by a scoop formation on the plate's top surface. The scoop is arranged for deflecting air from above the plate's top surface and consequently forcing such in a current collectively through the aligned viewing apertures of the disc and plate. This blowing current acts to both blow away debris from the field of view and thereby reduce viewing impairment, as well as to provide some cooling to the workpiece.

6722955 - Buckup plate assembly for grinding system - Owned by 3M Innovative Properties Company (St. Paul, MN)

An abrasive article backup plate assembly and grinder system having an abrasive article backup plate assembly is disclosed. The abrasive article backup plate assembly includes an abrasive article having an abrasive surface that includes a viewing window within the abrasive surface. A support member is provided including a first major surface which supports the abrasive article. At least a portion of the support member is made of materials sufficiently clear to collectively see through the support member and the viewing window. A method of abrading a surface using a grinder system including the abrasive article backup plate assembly is also disclosed.

6379234 - Reusable mount for abrasive devices

A reusable quick change mount including a support unit or backing member and a threaded retainer member or nut having a barrel which is received within a bore in the support unit. A resiliently deformable member is disposed within the bore of the support unit and frictionally engages the outer surface of the barrel on the nut to capture an abrasive device which is disposed between a flange extending outwardly from the nut and the support member. The surfaces on the support member and the flange which engage the abrasive device include anti-slip surfaces.
