The object of this invention is a lidded barrel with a barrel lid and a clamping-ring closure. Between its flat lid plate and its outer rim, the barrel lid is provided with a circular, perimetric groove while also featuring in its periphery at least one bung well with or without a bunghole. When a barrel is dropped, the areas around the bung well are most vulnerable to breakage, i.e. it is in these areas that the barrel lid is most likely to slip out of the clamping ring with leaks resulting. In order to improve leak resistance of a lidded barrel, especially one suitable and approved for hazardous liquids, under extreme stress-load conditions, the area around the bung wells of the barrel lid is to be stress-relieved in the event of overstress (dropped barrel). According to the present invention, this is to be accomplished by making and incorporating between the recessed bung well and the upper edge of the outer, inverted-U-shaped rim of the barrel lid suitable provisions whereby the radial surface length--as measured from the center of the lid to the upper edge of the U-shaped rim--of this area or segment of the barrel lid are elongated in relation to the neighboring areas or segments of the barrel lid away from the bung well.
A lid is shown for use with a portable tank or intermediate bulk container, or the like, having a threaded collar defining a port opening. The lid includes a generally circular top wall and a generally cylindrical sidewall connected to the top wall and having an inner threaded surface for threading to the threaded collar to close the port opening, in use. First and second circular openings through the top wall define first and second bung openings. First and second cylindrical collars extend downwardly from the top wall surrounding the respective first and second openings. Each cylindrical collar has a threaded inner wall for receiving a removable closure to selectively close the first and second bung openings.
