Therapeutic compositions comprising 1,8-dihydoxy-10-[2-(4-methylphenyl)-1-oxoethyl]-9(10H)-anthracenone and (R,S)-1,8-dihydroxy-10-(1-oxo-4-phenylpentyl)-9(10H)-anthracenone, said compounds having substantial therapeutic activity and minimal inflammatory effect.
