A system and method for controlling user access to stored content and interconnections to various sites accessible through a publicly accessible network. In one embodiment, the system includes a computer having a microphone to receive analog voice audio. The voice audio is filtered and digitized to produce a digital voice pattern. The digital voice pattern is compared to a master digital voice pattern. If successful, the amount of access afforded to a requesting user is determined based on the priority level of master digital voice pattern.
A method and apparatus for allowing a user device to avoid undesired state transitions when the user is present but not performing activities is provided. The method provides for detection of activity in the proximity of the user device by monitoring for sounds via an audio input device connected to the user device. The method further provides for analysis of the detected audio signals on the audio input to determine if the sound detected matches a voice reference sample of the user of the user device. If the detected sound matches the existing voice reference sample of the user, the method provides for simulation of activities on the user device, thereby preventing the user device from performing an undesired state transition, and in turn preempting resource saving operations.

The present invention relates to a method for protecting the security of a computer network which is accessed through the use of wireless devices, among other means. Specifically, the present invention pertains to a method of using user-specific biometric data to identify users of wireless devices such as PDAs and yet prevent use by unauthorized persons and prevent changing of the biometric data by unauthorized persons. The method also prevents unauthorized access, and facilitates authorized access, to computer networks. Control of access to the biometric data and control of access to the network can be maintained in the network administrator or other responsible body and thereby also offers security against theft.
An authorized user system for the Internet network is provided. The system includes biological signature circuitry for sensing a non-invasive biological signature from a user in contact with a biological identification device. Address circuitry in the biological identification device responds to the biological signature to provide a unique Internet Protocol address which can be provided to the Internet network to allow access thereto by a personal computer authorized by the authorized user.
A technique to control access to computer network resources at a computer facility permits a user to interact with the computer facility through a computer node of a network, wherein the user interaction comprises language learning responses submitted to the computer facility through the computer node, and a user authentication process is performed to determine if the permitted user interaction is authorized. The user authentication process is performed with user authentication information that is obtained by the computer facility during the permitted user interaction and also with user authentication information that is extracted from the user's language learning responses. In this way, user authentication occurs without intruding into the utilization of the computer facility.
