In an ink jet printer, a carriage carrying print heads engages with a print head cap support member when the carriage reaches a position where the print heads are positioned opposite to a print head cap supported on the print head cap support member during its movement toward a capping position where the print heads are capped with the print head cap, and moves together with the print head cap support member. As the carriage moves further toward the capping position, an operating member is operated by a cam to operate the print head cap so as to move toward the print heads for capping operation. Thus, the movement of the carriage and the capping operation of the print head cap are perfectly and accurately synchronized. A purging unit is driven through a gearing including a pump driving cam gear by a line feed motor.
A printhead maintenance cap includes a base and a wall portion. The wall portion is defined by a plurality of adjoining walls, and has a proximal end and a distal end, the plurality of adjoining walls defining an interior region. The proximal end is coupled to the base. A first lip extends from the distal end of the wall portion by a first extent in a direction non-orthogonal to the base, the first lip defining a first perimetrical sealing surface. A second lip extends from the distal end of the wall portion by a second extent, the second lip being spaced apart from the first lip, the second lip defining a second perimetrical sealing surface.
A feeder for a sheet-fed printing press includes a feeding table having a surface which, at least in subregions thereof, is formed with through openings, over which sheets separable or singlable by a suction head are transportable against lays for aligning the sheets and through which air feedable under the sheet in the region of the suction head is dischargeable in a downward direction, the feeding-table surface having edge portions formed with a respective inclination, the edge portions defining the openings.
