Abstract
A mechanical end face seal for sealing between a housing and a relatively rotating shaft which seal includes a pair of relatively rotating annular rings having seal faces in sealing contact with each other to define a seal interface, with one of the rings adapted to be secured to said shaft for rotation therewith, and the other fixed relative to the housing and one being axially movable toward the other. A generally annular flexible metal diaphragm secured between the axially movable ring and either the housing or shaft includes a generally radial disc-like central portion which defines a plurality of annular convolutions formed by protrusions extending in opposite axial directions. The diaphragm is pressed onto a cylindrical surface on the ring at about the center of mass of the ring. The surface includes a coating of a compound including PTFE, grit and a binder. In one form, the seal utilizes a second seal ring pressed into fluid tight relation with its associated carrier at about the center of mass of the ring. In another form, a seal ring is provided which is secured to its associated carrier in fluid tight relation utilizing welding techniques. The associated methods are disclosed.

6820822 - No leak seal system for irrigation wheel-drive gearbox

A gearbox for a drive line irrigation system in which the input and output shafts of the gearbox are sealed with a compressed and sintered silicon and carbide face seal. The face seal is contained within the gearbox and compressed between a gearbox end cap and a shaft bearing, obviating the need for external loading by bellows or similar spring elements.

7311307 - Seal seat assembly with specialized features - Owned by Freudenberg-Nok General Partnership (Plymouth, MI)

A seal seat assembly utilizes a positive mechanical drive between a seal seat and the bore of a pump component, which in turn is mounted to and driven by the shaft by means of a positive mechanical engagement therebetween. The grommet accommodates the positive mechanical drive between the seal seat and the pump component. The seal assembly enables a robust, easily assembled three-component sub-assembly of the seal seat, grommet and pump component that can be handled as a single unit, and which easily installs onto, seals with, and becomes rotationally locked to a shaft. The positive engagement features, retaining features and static sealing features are axially aligned to provide an axially-compact seal assembly.

7455300 - Gasket ring with sharp peaks

A seal has a core ring that is corrugated and a resilient material is attached to one or both of the top side surface and the bottom side surface. There is at least one corrugation on the top side (a convex corrugation) and at least one corrugation on the bottom side (a concave corrugation). The corrugations have sharp peaks and are shifted out of phase. A grommet around the inner diameter deters extrusion of the resilient material into the sealed system, and a folded over portion on the outer diameter helps deters extrusion into the environment.

6520755 - Fluid-moving device with integrated valve - Owned by Beckman Coulter, Inc. (Fullerton, CA)

A fluid-moving device with an integrated valve is disclosed. The device includes a housing defining a suction chamber and at least one internal passageway formed inside the housing. A first end of the internal passageway opens to the suction chamber and a second end of the internal passageway connects to an outside surface of the housing. The fluid-moving device of the present invention also includes a pumping structure disposed inside the suction chamber for generating a pressure inside the suction chamber. The device may also include valve passageways formed inside the housing. In one embodiment, a manifold is utilized for connecting the valve passageways to fluid supplies and fluid sinks. The manifold has a casing, at least one input port, at least one output port, and a plurality of internal manifold passageways formed in the manifold casing. A method of making a fluid-moving device with an integrated valve of the present invention is also disclosed.

6398223 - Mechanical face seal - Owned by John Crane Inc. (Morton Grove, IL)

A mechanical face seal comprising two seal rings for use in water pumps and other fluids, including a resilient bellows for providing a secondary seal between one seal ring and either a housing or a rotating shaft extending through an aperture in the housing. The resilient bellows preferably comprises an elastomeric material, such as molded rubber, and has a single convolution having a general cross-sectional shape of an inverted "omega." A finger spring member comprises a plurality of generally "U" shaped spring fingers which are adapted and deformed upon installation to provide an axial biasing force against the seal ring attached to the resilient bellows so as to urge it toward the other ring. In a preferred embodiment, the resilient bellows includes a ferrule for providing radially inward force on a flange portion of the bellows to maintain the secondary seal between the bellows and the seal ring, and a corresponding second ferrule at a flange portion disposed opposite the axial end of the bellows which provides a secondary seal between the bellows and either the shaft or the housing. Preferably, the seal elements are associated with a shaft sleeve and a retainer to present the seal as a cartridge for easy installation.
