A manhole frame assembly for supporting a member that can obstruct an access opening when the level of a construction material around the opening is raised, includes an outer frame member having a support surface and a side wall extending from the support surface. The side wall is constructed and arranged with an upper surface that is substantially flush with an original level of the construction material. An inner frame member can be received on the support surface and includes a surface for supporting a member for obstructing the access opening. The side wall includes an abutment device for preventing upward movement of the inner frame member when the original level of construction material around the outer frame member is raised. A portion of the inner frame member is movable in a direction transverse to a direction of a length of the access opening. Other features of the invention are directed to a method of fastening the inner frame to the outer frame and an apparatus for fastening the obstructing member to a manhole frame structure.
RELATED APPLICATION
This application is a continuation-in-part of U.S. patent application Ser. No. 08/515,986, filed Aug. 16, 1995, now U.S. Pat. No. 5,628,152, entitled "ADJUSTABLE MANHOLE COVER SUPPORT WITH SHIELD," and a continuation-in-part of U.S. patent application Ser. No. 08/517,081, filed Aug. 21, 1995, now U.S. Pat. No. 5,697,729, entitled "ANCHOR FOR UTILITY ACCESS HOLE SUPPORT INSERT," which was a continuation of patent application Ser. No. 08/242,015, filed May 12, 1994, now abandoned, which was a continuation-in part of patent application Ser. No. 08/087,171, filed Jul. 2, 1993, now abandoned. All of the above applications all incorporated herein by reference in their entireties.
Cover apparatus for temporarily covering access openings for water, drain, manhole and overflow pipes when the access openings are exposed, such as during construction, to prevent dirt, dust or unauthorized access to the access openings includes a top portion which extends outwardly beyond the access opening, an outer depending side wall which fits within the access opening, an outwardly flared lower side wall which extends below the outer depending side wall, a central cylindrical wall depending from the top portion in spaced relation from the depending side wall, and a plurality of ribs extending between the central wall and the depending side wall. A pump is secured within the central ring, and an expandable bladder in fluid communication with the pump is positioned on the depending side wall, between the top portion and the outwardly flared side wall. When inflated, the expandable bladder seals the cover apparatus to the access opening. In place of an expandible bladder, an elastomeric seal element is used, for small diameter access openings.
A manhole cover mounting structure includes an outer frame fastened to a manhole box by screw bolts, the outer frame having an upright guide rod in each of a plurality of hollow peripheral locating blocks thereof, an inner frame adjustably fastened to the inner frame to hold a cover plate in flush with the road surface. The inner frame has a plurality of female screws fastened to peripheral lugs thereof to hold a respective hollow screw rod for the mounting of through bolts; thereby securing to secure the inner frame to the upright guide rod in each locating block of the outer frame.
This invention is a device permitting a plug or a cover to lock in a detachable manner onto a frame. In accordance with the invention, the metal washer (9), interposed between the screw head (4) and the mounting surface (7) formed at the bottom of the housing (5) of the cover (2), includes two radial wings diametrically opposite (9a) working together with internal parts (13) of the housing (5) butting and preventing a rotation of the washer (9) during tightening of the fastening screw (3).The invention has applications for public roadways.
A manhole cover frame leveling clip, that attaches by a friction fit to the exterior peripheral flange of a manhole cover frame, and uses an adjustable bolt running through the clip, to manipulate the height and angle of the frame so that the frame is in the same plane or the correct elevation with the finished grade of the roadway surface.
A manhole/handhole includes a cover and a frame base. A plurality of elastic fixtures are bonded below through holes of the frame base. The through holes are corresponding to fixing holes of the cover so that screw bolts pass through the fixing holes of cover and the through holes of frame base and are locked to the fixtures. The cover is combined with the frame base so as to prevent the cover from jumping. Besides, at least a heightening base is installed between the cover and the frame base. The heightening base is stacked on the frame base so that the manhole/handhole is leveled with road surface for economizing working and time of roadwork.
