The weight and volume of a centrifugal fuel pump ideally suited for use in a fuel system for a turbine engine (12) may be reduced in a construction including a single shaft (10) mounting an inducing impeller (18), an impeller (22) for a regenerative pump, and an impeller (24) for a centrifugal volute pump. Hydrostatic bearings (26), (28) journal the shaft (10) within a pump housing (14) and are provided with fuel under pressure via a conduit (30) connected to the outlets of the regenerative pump and the centrifugal volute pump defined by the impellers (22) and (24), respectively.
A turbine impeller pump assembly includes a rotating shaft and inboard and outboard casing members coupled together with each having cavity channels, and an annular recess, and an axial opening to receive the rotating shaft. Inboard and outboard liner members are structurally arranged to be received by the annular recesses in the casing members and an impeller member is positioned between the liner members and keyed for rotation with the shaft. The inboard and outboard liner members each have at least two flow channels structurally arranged to cooperate with the cavity channels to provide equal and opposite pressures on the impeller to maintain the impeller in alignment with respect to the liner members.
The hydrostatic fluid bearing comprises a cylindrical stator having orifices for introducing a fluid under pressure, on its inside surface the stator has a split ring constituted by an assembly comprising a plane metal plate and a layer of self-lubricating composite material. The layer of composite material has cells for surrounding orifices for introducing fluid under pressure, once the assembly has been put into place inside the stator.
