A therapeutic chew device for aiding against periodontal disease in dogs which includes a length of rope formed of a plurality of polyester yarns with knots near the opposite ends of the rope and a chewable rawhide disk, including a compressed rawhide chew impregnated with activated charcoal, attached to the length of rope between the two knot. As the dog chews on the rope, the plurality of polyester yarns massage and stimulate the gums while individual loose yarn ends provide cleaning and flossing action for the teeth. In addition, as the dog chews on the charcoal impregnated rawhide disk, the activated charcoal is slowly released and absorbs odors and bacteria to clean and freshen the dog's breath.

The present invention relates to a pet toy comprised of a plurality of yarn pieces, a flexible elastic band member on which the pieces of yarn are fixedly attached, and a plastic tie member, which holds the pet toy in a ball-like, or other desired shape.
A dog toy (10) comprising a gyroflier disk (12) having a convex upper surface (22), a concave lower surface (24), and a circular rim around the circumference (26). Through the radial center of the disk (12) is an aperture (14). Inserted vertically into the aperture (14) is a short length of rope (16). The top end of the rope (16) is tied in a knot (18) that is positioned close to, and above, the upper surface (22) of the disk (12). The lower end of the rope (16) is tied in a knot (20) that is positioned close to, and below, the lower surface (22) of the disk (12). The lower knot (20) is large enough to cause the lower edge of the circumferential rim (26) to be positioned sufficiently above a relatively flat surface upon which the toy (10) rests that a dog may be able to insert its mouth under the rim (26) in order to pick up the toy (10). If the toy (10) is at rest on the ground or other relatively flat surface, the dog may pick it up by grabbing the upper knot (18) in its mouth. The dog may chew on the top or bottom rope knots (18, 20) while holding the disk (12) with its paws to stabilize the toy (10).
This invention is concerned with packaged food products which contain specific combinations of functional additives aimed at addressing specific health indicators, in particular flatulence, gastro-intestinal health, stress and immune system responsiveness, in pet animals. There is provided a commercially packaged mammal pet food product that includes a manufactured, shelf-life stable food substrate and a combination of functional additives. The functional additives include at least one non-palatable plant-based remedy and/or dietary fiber source that are present to strengthen and/or maintain a specified health indicator of a mammal pet animal. The food product is portioned and packaged with the functional additives being present in predetermined concentrations and amounts sufficient to be effective in achieving said indications on regular feeding of the pet animal with said food product. The food substrate is present in a proportion sufficient to mask the flavor and/or odor of the non-palatable additive and is made-up of a unique combination of materials that are able to be processed at lower temperatures to preserve the natural botanical functional additive's activity. Functional additives intended to address dietary flatulence problems include a combination of Yucca extract, charcoal and salts of zinc, such as zinc acetate. Functional additives to promote or maintain gastro-intestinal health include a combination of L-glutamine, D-glucosamine sulphate, sugar beet pulp, slippery elm. Functional additives to strengthen or maintain a pet animal's natural body defenses include a combination of vitamin E, vitamin B complex, primrose oil vitamin C and Marigold meal. Functional additives to promote or maintain reduction of stress and/or improved behavior of a pet animal include a combination of Valerian root extract, Kava root extract, vitamin B complex and magnesium salt.
An apparatus for dispensing items of food to pets is disclosed comprising a container and a cord. The container has a first opening through which the cord is inserted. The container has a chamber in which at least one item of food can be placed. The first opening of the container is large enough to allow the at least one item of food to pass through the first opening while the cord is in the first opening of the container. The first opening may be located at a first end of the container and the cap portion may be located at a second end of the container. The cap portion can be removed to allow insertion of one or more items of food into the chamber of the container through a second opening of the container. A method is also provided comprising inserting a cord through a first opening of a container so that the cord lies partially in a chamber of the container, placing an item of food into the chamber; and preventing the cord from coming completely out of the container.
