A computer system and method of operating the same to setup a graphics display driver and device are disclosed. The disk storage of the computer system contains a monitor file that specifies various video modes operable by a number of monitor types and models, and also contains a mode file that specifies the video modes operable by a number of graphics controllers. The mode file also contains the video parameters for each of the available video modes. During a setup routine, the computer system determines the monitor and graphics controller that are installed, and for each available driver program, selects a video mode compatible with each; if more than one video mode is compatible, the computer system may select the best video mode. Upon selection of the video mode, and upon installation of the driver, the computer system reads the video parameters from the mode file for the selected mode, such video parameters stored in an interpretive language, and executes the program in order to program the graphics controller according to the video parameters. This arrangement eliminates the need to maintain the video parameters in the driver executable, and thus facilitates configuration and maintenance of the computer system.

A display mode auto-setting method for a monitor displaying a video signal received from a video card includes reading a display information provided in the monitor, reading a plurality of display modes from the video card, selecting one of the display modes equal to the display information by comparing the display information with the display modes, and outputting the video signal based on the selected display mode to the monitor. A system for automatically setting a display mode of a monitor, in which the monitor is optimized, automatically selects the display mode most approximate to optimum display information of the monitor among the display modes supported by the video card.
The invention provides an image display apparatus that efficiently adjusts a video display even when a change takes place in an input signal. The image display apparatus includes a video input device that receives a video signal, a video display that displays an optical image based on an input signal S1 from the video input device, and a video signal adjusting device that adjusts the display setting of the video display based on a signal mode of the input signal S1. The image display apparatus further includes a determining device that causes the video display adjusting device to adjust the display setting of the video display. The determining device includes an apparatus startup detector unit that detects whether a startup of the image display apparatus creates a change in the input signal, and a signal change detector unit that detects the change in the input signal. The determining device determines whether to cause the video display adjusting device to adjust the display setting only when it is needed.

Mode support systems and methods. The system comprises a storage device and an editing unit. The storage device comprises a first mode list comprising a plurality of display modes. The editing unit edits at least one supported display mode from the display modes in the first mode list, and stores a second mode list comprising the supported display mode to the storage device. The supported display mode in the second mode list is retrieved by a device.
A method for customizing a presentation of a set of digital images provided by a user is disclosed, comprising the steps of selecting an initial presentation format criteria for the set of digital images by the user; analyzing the digital images for additional information; providing to the user a first portable electronic storage medium having the set of digital images stored thereon, the images capable of being presented to the user on a display device in accordance with a first presentation format based upon the initial selected presentation format criteria and the analysis of the additional information; and providing a software program to the user enabling the user to select additional presentation format criteria.
