An overlay for a sectional garage door extends between adjacent panel sections of the door. The overlay has a plurality of members made of extruded polystyrene. The overlay members extending from one section of the door to an adjacent section are cut along the centerline between door sections to allow the door to open and close and provide an aesthetically pleasing and professional appearance without gapping.

A carriage house garage door (20) is formed from first, second, and third wood overlay sections (22, 24, 26). Each of the wood overlay sections (22, 24, and 26) includes first and second layers of sheet metal (46, 48) and an insulating core (50). The first layer of sheet metal (46) is bonded to a first side (52) of the insulating core (50) and the second layer of sheet metal (48) is bonded to the second side (54) of the insulating core (50). Wood siding (30) is coupled to the first layer of sheet metal (46) by bonding the wood siding (30) to the first layer (46) using an adhesive and by stapling the wood siding (30) to the first layer (46).
A sectional door (10) and an assembly method for attaching a component (40, 41, 90) to a panel (11) of the sectional door (10) including the steps of fabricating a panel (11) for the sectional door (10), preparing a component (40, 41, 90) for attachment to the panel (11), dispensing a first adhesive (71, 72) on a surface where the panel (11) and the component (40, 41, 90) are to be joined, locating the panel (11) and the component (40, 41, 90) in a predetermined relative attachment position, and dispensing a second adhesive (71, 72) along at least one surface where the panel (11) and the component (40, 41, 90) abut. The sectional door (10) according to the assembly method includes a panel (11) having at least one side with at least a portion being a substantially planar surface (12, 13), a component (40, 41, 90) having at least one engaging surface (65, 66, 87, 88, 91) joined to the planar surface (12, 13), a first adhesive (71, 72) interposed between the planar surface (12, 13) and the engaging surface (65, 66, 87, 88, 91), and a second adhesive (71, 72) disposed along an edge of the engaging surface (65, 66, 87, 88, 91) and the planar surface (12, 13), whereby the second adhesive (71, 72) effects a seal between the panel (11) and the component (40, 41, 90) and imparts structural strength of the component (40, 41, 90) to the panel (11).
A carriage house replica garage door (20) is formed from first, second, and third door sections (22, 24, 26). Each of the door sections (22, 24, 26) includes a sheet metal layer (30). An insulating foam board (50) has a first side (52) and a second side (54), the first side (52) being coupled to an inner surface (48) of the sheet metal layer (30). A trim board system (150) include clips (158) that couple a channel member (152) of the trim board system (150) to an outer surface (46) of the sheet metal layer (30).
A sectional door (20) having a plurality of panels (21)joined for moving between open and closed positions of the door and having pinch resistant panel-to-panel interfaces (41), said panels having a body portion (21') spacing said interfaces, an inner surface (23) and an outer surface (22) of said body portion, and decorative components (31, 32) arranged in a patterned design upon said outer surface of said body portion, said decorative components being positioned on said panels proximate to said panel-to-panel interfaces and attached to said panels for movement of said decorative components to provide a pinch resistant interface between decorative components on adjacent of said panels.
A sectional door (20) having a plurality of panels (21) joined for moving between open and closed positions of the door and having pinch resistant panel-to-panel interfaces (41), said panels having a body portion (21') spacing said interfaces, an inner surface (23) and an outer surface (22) of said body portion, and decorative components (31, 32) arranged in a patterned design upon said outer surface of said body portion, said decorative components being positioned on said panels proximate to said panel-to-panel interfaces and having portions that releasably engage said panels to provide a pinch resistant interface between decorative components on adjacent of said panels.
