6420479 - Star polymer colloidal stabilizers - Owned by National Starch and Chemical Investment Holding Corporation (New Castle, DE)

A colloid composition is presented which contains an amphiphilic star polymer having potentially crosslinkable sites on the polymer backbone. The potentially crosslinkable site is either a sterically hindered silane monomer or an acetoacetoxy-containing monomer. When the crosslinkable site is a sterically hindered silane monomer the star polymer also contains an internal catalyst, and when the crosslinkable site is an acetoacetoxy group the colliod composition also contains a non-polymeric polyfunctional amine. The star polymer can be either a random or heteroarm star polymer. The colloid composition is useful in the formation and stabilization of emulsion polymers, as a replacement for surfactants currently used for this purpose. Emulsion polymers formulated with the colloid composition are especially useful for one-part coatings such as paints and adhesives.

6767968 - ABA-type block copolymers having a random block of hydrophobic and hydrophilic monomers and methods of making same - Owned by Symyx Technologies, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA)

Block copolymers are prepared by living-type or semi-living type free radical polymerization, with said copolymers having at least one random block comprised of at least one hydrophobic monomer and at least one hydrophilic monomer. The selection of hydrophobic and hydrophilic monomers in the random block is determined by the relative hydrophobicity of the monomers to impart selected solubility or dispersability in water and/or alcohols of the overall block copolymer.

7316811 - Multi-arm polypeptide-poly (ethylene glycol) block copolymers as drug delivery vehicles - Owned by Nektar Therapeutics AL, Corporation (Huntsville, AL)

The invention provides a multi-arm block copolymer for use in delivering a variety of bioactive agents. The copolymer of the invention contains a central core from which extend multiple (3 or more) copolymer arms. Each copolymer arm possesses an inner polypeptide segment and an outer hydrophilic polymer segment. Thus, the overall structure of the copolymer comprises an inner core region that includes the central core and the inner polypeptide segment, while the outer core region is hydrophilic in nature. The multi-arm copolymer of the invention is particularly useful for delivery of biologically active agents that can be entrapped within the inner core region.

7160934 - Ink for ink-jet recording, and ink cartridge and recording apparatus including the same - Owned by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Osaka,JP)

Ink for ink-jet recording contains an oil soluble dye, a humectant, a penetrant, water, and an amphiphilic star block polymer of which the outer portion is hydrophilic. The surface tension of the ink at 25.degree. C. is in the range of 20 to 50 mN/m.

6476124 - Composition comprising polymers having a star structure, the polymers, and their use - Owned by L'Oreal (Paris,FR)

A composition, comprising, in a physiologically acceptable medium, at least one polymer with a highly specific ordered structure is disclosed. These compositions find a specific application in the field of caring for or making up keratinous fibres, in particular as a mascara composition for the eyelashes or for the hair.
