Abstract
A container for microwave cooking having geometric features which improve the efficiency and uniformity of microwave cooking of food products containing liquids and which enhance boiling uniformity while preventing boilover of the contents. The container has a bottom portion and a side panel wherein the bottom portion contains a central segment in the shape of a section of a sphere. The side panel is tapered outwardly as it extends from the bottom portion to an end opening. Sharp corners are avoided within the container. As the result of the geometry of the container, a more uniform distribution of heat within the contents of the container is attained during cooking and the combination of uniform heating, the lack of sharp corners and the tapered side panel causes boiling of the contents without bumping, thereby minimizing the risk of boil over.

6429408 - Cooking device - Owned by Schott Glas (Mainz,DE)

A cooking device with a curved-shaped bowl having an inner surface that surrounds a cooking space. To allow such a cooking device to be used in a user-friendly way, the bowl is of a hard glass or a glass ceramic, and the bowl bears an edge that surrounds in a region of a bowl edge.

6672473 - Microwavable food container with reinforcing flange and sidewall - Owned by General Mills, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN)

A thermoformed plastic food container for use in microwave heating. The container includes a bottom, a sidewall and a flange. The sidewall extends upwardly from the bottom, terminating at a top end. The flange extends from the sidewall opposite the bottom and includes a rim section and a return section. The rim section extends radially outwardly from the top end of the sidewall, and is curved in transverse cross-section. With this configuration, the rim section defines a radius in transverse cross-section. Further, an outer surface of the rim section is configured to receive a sealing film. Additionally, the rim section defines, in top plan view, at least one side that is longitudinally curved, preferably forming a convex curve relative to a central axis of the container. The return section extends from the rim section opposite the top end. More particularly, the return section extends generally downwardly relative to the rim section. The compound curve configuration of the flange resists deflection in response to a lifting force imparted at a single point on the flange. Thus, during use whereby a food item is contained with the container and heated, the container will not overtly deflect when a user lifts the container with a single hand.

7038181 - Microwave beverage and food preparation apparatus - Owned by Megadex Corporation (Stanford, CA)

A microwave beverage and food preparation apparatus that, in one embodiment, converts a common fluid vessel such as a cup, mug, or bowl into a whistling kettle. A user places a lid having an alarm on a vessel containing liquid to be heated in a microwave. A member made of, or containing, nucleation-site-rich material on the underside of the lid extends into the liquid to activate boiling, thereby assuring a safe transition of the liquid to a normal boiling state. Steam escapes through an integrated whistle in the lid, alerting the user to the boiling.

7119312 - Microwave fluid heating and distillation method

A microwave energy emitter (108) is positioned in a microwave transparent chamber (123) within a fluid holding vessel (106) of a microwave containment vessel (122). The fluid holding vessel (106) may be transparent to microwave energy and is further provided with a microwave reflective component outward, on, or beyond an exterior surface (121) of the wall of the fluid holding vessel (106). The microwave reflective component reflects microwaves back into the fluid holding vessel (106). The fluid holding vessel (106) encloses a material that absorbs microwave energy. An inlet path (116) and outlet path (112) is provided for material to flow in and out of the holding vessel upon predetermined conditions. Heated material can be condensed via a condenser (124) into a collection vessel (120). A controller (126) is provided to send control signals to a switching device (100) for controlling the material flow and receiving sensing signals for decision generation.

7485831 - Slow cooker - Owned by Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc. (Glen Allen, VA)

A slow cooker for heating of food stuffs includes a housing having a base and a side wall extending therefrom to define a heating cavity within the housing. A heating element is disposed within the housing to heat the heating cavity. A container has a generally hollow interior and a container rim defining an opening for accessing the interior. The interior is capable of retaining the food stuffs therein. The container is shaped and sized to fit within the heating cavity of the housing for heating thereof by the heating element. A lid is sized and shaped to at least partially cover the opening of the container when placed on the container rim. The lid includes a handle. A utensil is included for manipulating the food stuffs. The utensil is removably engageable with the handle of the lid.
