A system and method for a user interface to input URL address data obtained from captured video frames while simultaneously viewing a television broadcast, the system having a television with associated television screen, a set-top box, and a remote control. The invention also includes means for initiating a video-viewing mode (where the television receives a television signal via the set-top box and displays the television signal on the television screen), a capture manager for capturing image data frames from the television signal, an interface manager for displaying information windows on the display screen, and a search manager for retrieving data pages from a networked source such as the Internet.
A dubbing system has a reproducing apparatus, a recording apparatus, and a terminal apparatus connected with a bus line. Data reproduced by the reproducing apparatus is recorded to a recording medium of the recording apparatus. A first contents list of a recording medium of the reproducing apparatus and a second contents list of a recording medium of the recording apparatus are displayed as windows on a display unit. A program name of a program to be recorded to the recording apparatus is selected on the first contents list. The selected program name is moved to the second contents list by a cursor so as to select the program to be recorded, thereby causing corresponding data reproduced by the reproducing apparatus to be recorded on the recording medium of the recording apparatus.
The present invention provides method and apparatus for defining and redefining adynamic graphical user interface, which can control multiple applications or applets with one graphical user interface. As new applications or applets are launched, the graphical user interface determines the functionality of the newly added application. Existing functions are used if they are equal to functions required of the new application or applet. New functionality is added if required.
A hypervideo player for playing hypervideos containing both video and hypervideo hyperlinks provides user selectable run-time options for the form of hypervideo hyperlink emphasis region display attributes displayed at the time of viewing. The hypervideo player may reside on a host system. The hypervideo player integrates video file(s) and hypervideo hyperlink data file(s) to form a hypervideo. The hypervideo player decodes a video file, encodes the decoded video file with a corresponding hypervideo hyperlink data file at key frames of the video file to form a hypervideo, displays the hypervideo on a display device and provides the user, at the time of viewing, with at least one user selectable option for the form of hypervideo hyperlink emphasis region display attributes. The hypervideo player preferably employs interpolation between key frames to determine the display position of the hypervideo hyperlink emphasis region(s) in non-key frames of the hypervideo. The use of key frame encoding and interpolation to determine the display position between key frames, enable the hypervideo hyperlink emphasis region(s) to be displayed at all desired locations of the hypervideo even though the hypervideo hyperlink data is encoded only at key frames.
A data distribution system is provided which generates outputs attribute data about multimedia data in advance and broadcasts the output attribute data together with the multimedia data so that the receiving terminal can grasp the outlines of the entire multimedia data and improve the visibility. A data broadcasting device (1) generates output attribute data about multimedia data in a data analyzing portion (13). The output attribute data exists alone or is embedded in the multimedia data. The multimedia data and the output attribute data are encoded in a protocol encoder (14) and broadcast from a transmitter (15). A receiving terminal device (2) receives the broadcast data in a tuner (21) and obtains the multimedia data and output attribute data in a tuner (21). When a data display portion (26) displays the obtained multimedia data, the output attribute data is referred to and information related to the multimedia data is displayed together with the multimedia data. A data analyzing portion (24) analyzes the multimedia data and extracts the output attribute data embedded therein.
A web page staging area for construction of web pages hidden from view of the user. Once the web page is constructed, it is displayed to the user based upon timer event information or receipt of a particular command instructing that it be displayed. Use of the staging area provides the user with a more television-like experience in viewing content from the Internet or other source in that the user need not view a web page being constructed on a display device. Use of timer event information for displaying the constructed web page permits synchronization of the web page with associated programming.
