6853875 - System for the combined handling, delivery and/or protection of multiple standardized containers and their controllable payloads - Owned by The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy (Washington, DC)

An unmanned system is provided for the handling and delivery of a plurality of operational payloads. Each of a plurality of standardized shipping containers houses an operational payload, a controller that controls functions of the operational payload, and communication means that communicates with the controller. A structure is provided for supporting the shipping containers in a fixed relationship to one another so that the shipping containers can be handled and transported collectively by moving the structure. The structure is equipped with means to facilitate data transfer with each shipping container's controller.

6885299 - Geopositionable expendable sensors and the use therefor for monitoring surface conditions

A sensor system for monitoring for the presence of contamination with one or more contaminating biological, chemical and/or radioactive agents on a terrain surface, and creating a contamination map thereof. The sensor system includes a plurality of sensor pods, a ground station, an airborne dispensing portion, and an airborne monitoring portion. The sensor pods include a pod housing, a descent slowing airfoil, a detector unit for detection of the contaminating agent and outputting contaminating agent data, a processor for processing the contaminating agent data, a GPS unit for determining the position of the sensor, and a transmitter for transmitting contamination agent data and position data to the airborne monitoring portion. The airborne monitoring portion receives the transmitted data from the sensor pods, and relays the data to the ground station, where the contamination map is made available.

6639553 - Passive/ranging/tracking processing method for collision avoidance guidance

A passive/ranging/tracking processing method provides information from passive sensors and associated tracking control devices and GPS/IMU integrated navigation system, so as to produce three dimensional position and velocity information of a target. The passive/ranging/tracking processing method includes the procedure of producing two or more sets of direction measurements of a target with respect to a carrier, such as sets of elevation and azimuth angles, from two or more synchronized sets of passive sensors and associated tracking control devices, installed on different locations of the carrier, computing the range vector measurement of the target with respect to the carrier using the two or more sets of direction measurements, and filtering the range vector measurement to estimate the three-dimensional position and velocity information of the target.

7373849 - Autonomous reconnaissance sonde, and method for deployment thereof - Owned by Roke Manor Research Ltd. (Romsey,GB)

A method for deploying a reconnaissance sonde, including the steps of: incorporating at least one environmental sensor and an associated communication device into a robust, aerodynamically efficient casing; deploying the sonde by imparting a spin and a directional velocity to the casing, sufficient to carry the sonde into a region of interest; and establishing communication with the communication device, thereby enabling data from the sensor(s) to be transmitted to a remote location. A sonde for remote data collection is also provided, including at least one environmental sensor, an energy source and communication means. The sonde is generally shaped as a discus or saucer, a clay pigeon or skeet, for deployment by applying a spin and directional velocity to the sonde.

7548488 - Airborne acoustic sensor array - Owned by Honeywell International, Inc. (Morristown, NJ)

Embodiments for determining the bearings to targets from a remote location are disclosed. The apparatus consists of an array of acoustic sensors that is capable of autonomous flight. The array may be large in diameter, approximately one meter or greater. The apparatus is capable of navigating its flight to arrive at a predetermined location, measuring acoustic sound waves emitted by targets both during flight and after landing. The apparatus may then calculate the bearings to the targets and transmit this information to a remote location.
