A safety-lock mechanism for use with a multi-position window having a stationary window frame, a sash window frame positioned within the stationary window frame and selectively pivotable out of the stationary window frame about a vertical axis and a horizontal axis, and a drive train positioned between the sash window frame and the stationary window frame, the drive train being moveable between at least a first position which enables the sash window frame to be pivoted about the horizontal axis and a second position which enables the sash window frame to be pivoted about the vertical axis. The safety-lock mechanism includes a spring-biased pin provided on the sash window frame. The pin has a proximal end, a distal end, a locked position and an unlocked position, and is normally biased into the locked position. An aperture is provided within the drive train and is configured to receive the proximal end of the pin. In the locked position, the proximal end of the pin extends into the aperture so as to prevent movement of the drive train from the first position into the second position. When the pin is placed in the unlocked position, the drive train is capable of being moved from the first position into the second position, thereby allowing the sash window frame to be pivoted about the vertical axis.
A window for use in buildings for housing animals, such as barns, that is openable in two generally perpendicular directions, is provided. The window includes an outer frame secured within an opening in the structure, a middle frame that is pivotally secured to the outer frame, and an inner frame pivotally secured to the middle frame. A first pivoting mechanism includes a pair of hinges that enable one of the frames to be pivoted with respect to the outer frame along a generally vertical axis, and the second pivoting mechanism enables the other frame to be pivoted with respect to the outer frame along a generally horizontal axis. The second mechanism pivots and slides one of the frames in order to open the window for ventilation purposes while enabling the remaining frame to remain closed, thereby preventing the entering or exiting of large objects through the window, such as an animal's head.
A safety assembly for an actuating linkage of a metallic casement window or door includes an "L" shaped guiding body fastenable on the exterior of the movable frame of the window or door, a first and a second slidable member mounted slidably on the guiding body, a flexible element that interconnects the slidable members, and a safety block. A bolt is mounted in the block and is slidable transversely relative to the direction of motion of the first slidable member and against the action of a spring. The body has two transverse guides between which the safety block is inserted. The first member has two segments with different heights and the safety block has an opening oriented towards the body and directed in the longitudinal direction of the first slidable member to prevent motion of the safety block.
