Abstract
Light emitting panel assemblies include in one form of the invention a light emitting panel member made of a transparent resiliently deformable elastomeric material that absorbs impact without breakage for use in automotive lighting applications of various types. In another form of the invention, a rigid light emitting panel member may be used with dome switches for switch area lighting or to backlight control buttons/key pads by providing holes or openings in the panel member for the control buttons/key pads. Also, a rigid light emitting panel member may be used as a structural member, and two or more such light emitting panel members may be stacked together and used to light an instrument panel or the like. One or more light sources may be mounted within one or more light transition areas adjacent one or more light input surfaces of the light emitting panel members. Also one or more light sources may be positioned adjacent one side of the light emitting panel members for causing light to shine through the panel members or through holes in the panel members for performing specified lighting functions.

6864496 - Lighting effect generator

A device for generating lighting effects, the device comprises a light modulating component which is formed from an optically transmissive material and has a multi-faceted surface and also a means for rotating the light modulator in use. The device further comprises a light source, which is positioned such that the light passes through the light modulating component to illuminate a light receiving surface. This, in turn, produces an optical illumination effect.

7252400 - Illuminated indicator - Owned by Delphi Technologies, Inc. (Troy, MI)

An illuminated indicator is disclosed. The illuminated indicator includes graphics disposed on a rear surface of a lightpipe and a housing that supports the rear surface of lightpipe. The housing defines an outer perimeter light channel. The illuminated indicator also includes a plurality of light sources that are disposed about the outer perimeter light channel. The outer perimeter light channel directs light from the plurality of light sources to an outer perimeter edge of the lightpipe to evenly illuminate the graphics.

6588924 - Display unit with a front instrument panel and process for producing such a front instrument panel - Owned by Mannesmann VDO AG (Frankfurt,DE)

In a display unit there is provided a front instrument panel (2) for inscription with symbols (9), which have an opaque portion (12) enclosed by a transparent portion (11), a so-called island. This opaque portion (12) is applied to a transparent backing (15) and fitted into an opening (13), made in the front instrument panel (2) to correspond to the contour of the symbol (9), at a distance from an edge region (20) of the opening (13). Use of the backing (15) makes it possible to dispense with connecting cross-pieces between the island and the front instrument panel (2). Furthermore, a process for producing the front instrument panel (2) intended for the display unit is provided, in which process firstly the opening (13) is made by punching and the backing (15) is formed by film-insert molding a transparent plastic behind the front instrument panel (2).

7044620 - LED assembly with reverse circuit board - Owned by Guide Corporation (Pendleton, IN)

A lamp assembly and methods of assembling the lamp assembly are provided. The lamp assembly comprises a printed circuit board (PCB) having a face surface, a rear surface opposite the face surface, electrical traces on the rear surface, and an opening extending from the face surface to the rear surface, and a light emitting diode (LED) emitter having a dome portion, a body, and a plurality of electrical terminals connected to the body, wherein the body of the LED emitter is adjacent the rear surface, the dome portion of the LED emitter extends through the opening in the PCB to the face surface, and the electrical terminals are connected to the electrical traces on the rear surface.

7530702 - Display over gage instrument cluster - Owned by Visteon Global Technologies, Inc. (Van Buren Township, MI)

A motor vehicle instrument cluster comprising an analog indicator assembly having a pointer rotatably coupled to an actuator for a movement by the actuator, and a display assembly including a display screen for displaying information to an occupant of the motor vehicle and a printed circuit board electrically connected to the indicator assembly and the display assembly. In addition, the printed circuit board is electrically connected to an electrical ground and a metal support frame is mounted to the printed circuit board and coupled thereby to the electrical ground. The metal frame includes a support tray spaced apart from the printed circuit board, defining a gap in between. Finally, the display assembly is mounted in thermal communication to the support tray and the frame and the printed circuit board cooperate to define a static discharge path between the display assembly and the electrical ground.
