Abstract
A firearm safety device invention for handguns is disclosed. The safety device (10) prevents accidental firing of a gun by children, but is easily removable by an adult in 5 to 10 seconds even in pitch darkness. The safety device includes a lock sleeve (26) with an expandable end plug (30) which is inserted through the muzzle (16) of a gun barrel (14). With the end plug positioned in the firing chamber, a lock rod (24) is inserted into the lock sleeve to force expansion of the linear slotted (32) end plug sufficiently to prevent the safety device from being removed from the barrel. Withdrawal of the lock rod from the lock sleeve to allow removal of the safety device is prevented by a knurled cap (22) which is threadedly attached to a knurled enlarged end portion (28) of the lock sleeve. Since the safety device is able to rotate freely in its assembled position in the gun, any attempt to unscrew the knurled cap without holding the enlarged end portion of the lock sleeve stationary will be unsuccessful. A child will not be able to remove the knurled cap since he or she will hold the gun in one hand while fiddling with the knurled cap with the other hand.

6810613 - Supplementary safety device for light firearms - Owned by Fabbrica D'Armi Pietro Beretta S.p.A. (Gardone Val Trompia Brescia,IT)

This invention concerns a supplementary safety device in the form of a false cartridge to be inserted into the chamber of a light firearm barrel, including a radially expandable portion controlled by a lock operated by a specific key for locking/unlocking it in the barrel in which it is housed, so it may be removed only voluntarily.

6796072 - Firearm safety device - Owned by Ammo-Safe, Inc. (Cranston, RI)

The firearm safety device includes a cylindrical cartridge plug which is insertable into a firing chamber of the barrel of a firearm. One end of the cartridge plug is positioned proximal to the opening of the bore through the barrel and the other end is positioned proximal to a firing pin of the firearm. The cartridge plug has a smooth outer surface which is in communication with an extraction finger of the firearm. A number of protrusions emanate outwardly from the outer surface of the cartridge plug. The protrusions are frictionally engageable with the inner wall of the firing chamber to maintain the plug within the firing chamber. An elongated indicator member is connected to the end of the cartridge plug which is proximal to the bore. The other end of the elongated indicator member extends completely through the bore of the barrel so that it is visible outside the barrel of the firearm to indicate to the user that the firearm is in a safe condition and cannot be fired.

6912807 - Firearms safety device - Owned by Armatix GmbH (Unterfohring,DE)

The invention relates to a safety device and a securing method, in particular for securing firearms against unauthorised use. A device according to the invention is provided with at least one clamping or locking portion that is insertable into a barrel 100 of a firearm and is optionally lockable and/or unlockable or permanently clampable therein and/or detachable therefrom. Moreover, it is provided with a control unit, such as an electronic authentication means that is capable of authenticating a user and, if the user is authorized, makes at least one clamping portion clampable within the barrel of the weapon or detachable therefrom. The safety device is completely insertable into the barrel.

6862831 - Firearm breech safety lock - Owned by Canaday; Benjamin (Kevil, KY) Elrod; Clay (Smithland, KY) Elrod; David (Boaz, KY)

A safety device for preventing unauthorized or accidental use of a gun. The safety device includes a solid body of material, a muzzle end plug and an elongate threaded rod inter-connecting the same. The solid body is sized and shaped to simulate a live cartridge. It has an outwardly directed flange at one end for engaging an end wall surrounding entry into the cartridge chamber of the gun and a threaded bore extending inwardly a selected distance from the opposite end. An O-ring fits into a groove it the solid body and projects outwardly frictionally to engage the inner wall surface-of the gun barrel in the cartridge chamber. The muzzle plug has an outwardly directed flange at one end thereof that engages an outer end of the gun barrel. The muzzle plug has a recess in the outer end face remote from the elongate rod and in a preferred embodiment beyond the recess there is chamfered surface tapering to the extent that the outwardly directed flange has a thin narrow edge that cannot be gripped by pliers or the like. A key has a projection that mates with the recess in the muzzle plug. A pin projects from the key projection and fits into a small recess in the base of the first mentioned plug recess.

6895707 - System for preventing accidental or unauthorized firing of a firearm - Owned by VisuaLock, Inc. (Freemont, CA)

A firearm locking device increases firearm safety and security. A receiver cartridge shaped and sized with same caliber as firearm is loaded into bullet chamber. A barrel rod is removably engaged to the receiver cartridge and protrudes from the end of firearm barrel. Protruding end serves as fast visual indicator that firearm is unloaded and safe to handle, store, or display. A light pull on protruding end also serves as indicator that firearm is unloaded and safe. A lock and cable serve to lock the barrel rod to firearm's trigger guard to prevent removal of barrel rod from barrel.
