A method and apparatus for determining a byte select vector for a crossbar shifter include processing that begins by storing data in a first set of byte locations and in a second set of byte locations. Typically, a data operand is written into the first and a shift value is written into the second set of byte locations. The processing continues by obtaining a shift amount value for the data. The processing then continues by determining, for each byte multiplexor of a set of byte multiplexors associated with a corresponding output byte, whether a wrapped condition will occur based on the shift amount for the data. When the wrap condition occurs, a wrap shift amount is determined based on a mode of shifting. The processing then continues by generating a byte select vector for the set of byte multiplexors based on the wrap shift amount and the shift amount. The byte select vector includes a first nibble that is associated with a first one of the byte multiplexors and a second nipple that is associated with a second one of the byte multiplexors.
Systems and methods for improving the performance of a multimedia processor system by dynamically evaluating the current performance of the system and, if necessary, updating the configurations of the individual processors to improve the performance of the system. One embodiment comprises a method implemented in a multiprocessor system, including evaluating the performance of a current set of configuration objects installed on the processors, selecting a preferred set of configuration objects, and replacing one or more of the configuration objects in the current set to conform the current set to the preferred set. The method may evaluate the performance of configuration objects according to user preferences and may select preferred configuration objects according to a selectable strategy that can, for example, favor unification or diversity in the types of preferred configuration objects.
A method and an apparatus for performing a shift operation on an operand. The method and apparatus configures input lines to comprise a first part that includes the bits in order representing various shift amounts in a first direction and a second part that includes bits ordered representing various shift amounts in a second direction. The shift is then performed by selecting the appropriate bits from the input line to create the result.
