Measuring wireless network performance from a remote site uses a mobile handset that may include an appropriate world wide network browser. A user connects the mobile handset to the remote site via the wireless network which is coupled to the world wide network. Once the connection is made, application software at the measurement site sends commands to the mobile handset and in response the mobile handset sends measurement data to the application software. The application software processes the data to provide information about the wireless network performance including analyses for predictive and diagnostic purposes, since measurement data from many handsets, many locations and many base stations at many times may be collected at one central location.
According to one aspect of the invention, a method is provided in which a connection is established, via a first wireless network, between a first wireless device located at a first location and a diagnostic control unit located at a second location. The first wireless device is coupled to an equipment at the first location the operations of which to be remotely tested by the diagnostic control unit. One or more diagnostic requests are transmitted, via the first wireless network, from the diagnostic control unit to the equipment through the first wireless device to perform one or more diagnostic operations on the equipment. The requested diagnostic operations are performed on the equipment to generate diagnostic results.
A wireless device includes a communications processing engine having a plurality of diagnostic data relating to the operation of the wireless device on a wireless network; a computer platform having a universal diagnostic monitor module operable to retrieve selected ones of the plurality of diagnostic data from the communications processing engine, and operable to control generation of a view of the selected ones of the plurality of diagnostic data; and a user interface operable to present the view to a user.
Wireless adapters are installed on one or more general purpose computing devices and are connected via a wireless network in an enterprise environment. The adapters are densely deployed at known locations throughout the environment and are configured as air monitors. The air monitors monitor wireless signals transmitted between transceiver devices and access points and records information about these signals. One or more analysis or inference engines may be deployed to analyze the signals received from the air monitors to obtain optimum performance and connectivity information about the wireless network.
Systems and methods for defining and using a data collection profile in connection with a telecommunications network that includes multiple devices. Initially, a query is defined that concerns one or more aspects of the communications network. The query is then used as a basis for building a data collection profile. Next, a set of target devices is selected based upon criteria relating to the query. The data collection profile is then provided to the target devices which collect data in accordance with the data collection profile. Finally, the collected data is transmitted to a service platform for further processing.
