The present invention relates to novel compounds, and therapeutically acceptable salts thereof of the formula (I), which inhibit exogenously or endogenously stimulated gastric acid secretion and thus can be used in the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases. ##STR1##
