An image lens distortion correcting method having step (A) for printing an arbitrary image I.sub.1 in a computer; step (B) for photographing the printed image I.sub.1 with a camera having a lens distortion and obtaining a photographed image I.sub.2 in the computer; step (C) for obtaining a parameter .theta. such that the image I.sub.1 is artificially distorted with the parameter .theta. and an obtained distorted image I.sub.1.sup.ud equals with the photographed image .sub.2 ; and step (D) for using the obtained parameter .theta. to correct the image photographed by the camera. Thereby, (1) no correspondence point needs to be given, (2) no special tool or object is used, and (3) all points on the image are used, so that an internal parameter can automatically be obtained with high precision, and image lens distortion can be corrected with high precision.
A method of correcting an image with perspective distortion and creating an artificial image with perspective distortion is disclosed. First, image data including a distorted object image are received. Next, the user inputs an operational instruction for setting a plurality of distortion parameters pertaining to the image data, which include a distorted side of the distorted object image, a central line and a distortion ratio. Thus, a plurality of coordinates of corners of the distorted object image are calculated according to these distortion parameters and a transformation matrix is determined according to the calculated coordinates of the corners of the distorted object image. Finally, the distorted object image is transformed to a corrected object image according to the transformation matrix.
A processing system and method for producing formatted information related to appliances of an appliance chain. This appliance chain includes at least one image-capture appliance and/or at least one image-restitution appliance for capturing and/or restituting an image on a medium. The system and method produce formatted information related to geometric distortions of at least one appliance of the chain. Fixed characteristics of the appliances and/or variable characteristics depending on the image can be taken into account. The fixed characteristics and/or the variable characteristics can be associated with one or more characteristic values, especially the focal length and/or the focusing. Then, measured formatted information related to the geometric distortions of the appliance are produced from a measured field. The system and method are applicable to photographic or video image processing, in optical devices, industrial controls, robotics, metrology, etc.
An image processing apparatus that generates image data from which it can be determined from the processed image what kind of processing has been performed on the image, and that enables bulge correction of the image and transformation of the image to be carried out with ease.
