A method for querying metadata associated with media, such as multimedia and/or streaming media, on a computer network includes separating the metadata into keywords. The keywords are compared with valid keywords. A score is calculated in accordance with the degree of similarity between the keywords and valid keywords. If the degree of similarity is above a threshold, the metadata is qualified as valid metadata. Valid metadata is available for comparison and correction of other (invalid) metadata.

A system for facilitating production of information material comprises a plurality of metadata nodes operable to process metadata describing the content of information material, and a data communications network for providing a facility for communicating the metadata between the metadata nodes. The metadata is represented as metadata strings describing the content or attributes associated with the information material. The metadata string includes a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) providing an address of a storage location of an associated metadata resource. The metadata string is communicable separately from the information material via the network and the associated metadata resource is accessible via the network using the resource identifier. The metadata string can be arranged to provide an indication of parameters describing the information material and identifiers such as UMIDs or the like which facilitate navigation of the information material. The associated metadata resource can be arranged to provide any further metadata having a substantial volume. By describing the associated metadata resource with a URI contained within the metadata string, the metadata resource is accessible from, for example a web browser. Accordingly the metadata resource does not need to be communicated with the metadata string, thereby substantially reducing a bandwidth requirement or data communications traffic required on the data communications network.
An optimized method for the transmission of multimedia contents between a multimedia content transmitter and a multimedia content receiver in a mobile radio network transmitting a multimedia content description vector from the transmitter to the receiver, calculating a pertinence score of the content from the description vector and as a function of a user profile associated with a user of the receiver, and recovering, at the explicit request of the receiver, a block or blocks of the content not received by the receiver, with a priority depending on the pertinence score associated with the content to which the missing block(s) belong(s).
A method for retrieving information from a computer system including a user terminal and a storage area, includes retrieving first information from the storage area using a first search query, the first search query having a first element and a first weight that is associated with the first element. The first search query has been formulated to retrieve target information. The first information includes at least a first data block. Second information is retrieved from the storage area using a second search query. The second search query has the first element, and a second weight that is associated with the first element. The second search query is derived from a relevance feedback provided on the first data block of the first information. An end-search criterion is provided to the user terminal. The end-search criterion provides information as to whether or not to end a first retrieval procedure for the target information. The first retrieval procedure being associated with a search query set, the search query set including a plurality of search queries, each having the first element.
A method and apparatus are provided for obtaining information over the internet. The method includes the steps of uploading a search agent from a searching terminal to a website to be searched and executing the uploaded steps of the search agent at the website to provide a search result. The method further includes the step of downloading the search result to the searching terminal.
Methods and apparatus for versioning an electronic document based on XML and methods and apparatus for providing an updated electronic document based on XML can use a version value. The electronic document being managed can use a syntax defining a structure of the structured electronic document. One method is characterized in that date information of when a content of the electronic document is changed is used as a version value.
